Library Services for Spring 2022

Newman Library Exterior

UPDATE: This information applied only to the spring 2022 semester. For current information regarding library services, please consult the library’s web site.

——————————————————————-

Below is a summary of our service changes for Spring 2022, which begins on January 28.   If there are additional changes during the semester, they will be posted here.

Access to the Library:  To enter the library, users must present a valid CUNY ID card and a CUNY Cleared4 Access Pass that shows the status “Cleared for CUNY Access” for the day of entry.  The CUNY mask mandate was lifted effective March 7.  For the spring 2022 semester access to the Library is limited to current CUNY students, faculty, staff, and retired faculty.

Library Hours: The hours are posted on the library’s hours page.

Reference Service: The on-site reference desk is staffed according to the hours posted on the Library’s hours page.   24×7 service is provided via the chat service form that appears on the library’s home page.

Book Loans: Users may borrow books on site.  The circulating books in the call number range F – N must be paged by library staff due to a book stack renovation project.  Users may request that books be held at the circulation desk for pickup by:

  • using OneSearch on the library’s home page to identify the book in the catalog;
  • selecting the Baruch copy and clicking “request”.
  • Note: Books will be paged from the stacks at least once daily and placed on hold.

Books on Reserve & Textbooks: Loans of books on reserve for courses are transacted at the main circulation desk and the robotic book lending kiosk.

Computers in Library: The desktop computers in the library are not available.  Users are expected to bring their own device or borrow one from the equipment loan program.  Desktop computers are available in the student computing lab (Kaplan Center) on the 6th floor.

Printing: The printers in the Library are available for use.  Send a job to the printer from your own device anywhere by uploading it at printing.baruch.cuny.edu.  Please take advantage of our remote printing service by submitting your job before you come to the library. That way you will be able to just walk to any printer and release the job.  There is no need to wait in line in the library to submit a print job.

Group Study Rooms: All the study rooms in the library are available to students on a first-come, first-served basis.  Keys are loaned at the circulation desk on the 2nd floor.

Calculator Loan:  The circulation desk in the library has a limited number of calculators that will be loaned for the semester on a first-come, first-served basis.

Equipment Loans (laptops, iPads, etc.): Equipment loans are transacted at the technology loan desk on site in the Library.  The items available for loan and the associated loan periods are listed on the Library’s technology loan services page.  A few items are available for semester-long loan while supplies last.  They may be requested using the equipment loan form.

Book Returns: The book drop is available in the lobby outside the Library to enable users to return books without having to enter the library.

Equipment Returns: Laptops, iPads, Chromebooks and other types of equipment should be returned at the technology loan desk.  Please do not place these in the book drop.  Contact technologyloan@baruch.cuny.edu for assistance with special circumstances.

Interlibrary Loan: Interlibrary loan service is available.  Details are posted on the ILL service web page.

Scanning Stations: The scanners are available on the second floor of the library.

Course-Related Lectures: The Library’s faculty will continue to provide research sessions for classes in other academic departments.  Instructors who request a session from the Library should expect that it will be delivered remotely via Zoom.
