Spring 2025: Welcome New & Returning Students

A photo of part of the newly opened 4th floor study area

We are excited to have everyone back after a quiet month between semesters. We will be open our usual hours seven days a week: 7 AM to 11 PM. Each of the service desks in the library has shorter hours than the actual library hours (details on the Hours page of the library website).

There are number of new things to announce:

  • A fully opened 4th floor! Both sides of the floor are now available for use, adding 102 open seats and 10 group study rooms that can be booked in advance.
  • New study cubicles on the 4th floor. On the west side of the floor, near the plaza are two rows of cozy cubicles for individual use. They feature lots of desk space and power outlets.
  • Revamped docking stations on the 2nd floor. Located across from the reference desk, these docking stations now have seating and let you connect your laptop or iPad to a large external monitor.

If you’re new to Baruch, we’ve got pages details all the many services and resources you’ll want to know about:

Questions? We’ve got lots of way to get answers:

  • call us when the reference desk is open at 646-312-1610
  • stop by and ask us in person

Library Services in Fall 2021 and Winter Session 2022

Newman Library ExteriorThe Newman Library reopened to users on August 25, 2021.  We are happy to welcome everyone back!

Below is a summary of our service changes for Fall 2021 and Winter (January) 2022 Session.   If there are additional changes during the semester, they will be posted here.

Access to the Library: In Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 Session the library is open only to students, faculty, and staff of Baruch College and CUNY School of Professional Studies due to a limit on seating capacity to provide sufficient social distancing. The Library keeps a running count of occupancy throughout the day.  When the occupancy limit is reached no one may enter the library until someone exits.  Users must comply with the University’s mask mandate.  The fourth floor of the library is inaccessible at this time due to a book stack renovation project.

Library Hours: The hours are posted on the library’s hours page.

Reference Service: The on-site reference desk is staffed according to the hours posted on the Library’s hours page.  Due to the seating capacity limit in the library, we strongly recommend that users consult our live chat reference service, which is available 24×7.  The chat service form appears on the library’s home page.

Book Loans: Users may borrow books on site.  The circulating books in the call number range F – N must be paged by library staff due to a book stack renovation project.  Users may request that books be held at the circulation desk for pickup by:

  • using OneSearch on the library’s home page to identify the book in the catalog;
  • selecting the Baruch copy and clicking “request”.
  • Note: Books will be paged from the stacks at least once daily and placed on hold.

Books on Reserve & Textbooks: Loans of books on reserve for courses are transacted at the main circulation desk and the robotic book lending kiosk.

Computers in Library: The desktop computers in the Library are not available.  Users are expected to bring their own device or borrow one from the equipment loan program.  Desktop computers are available in the student computing lab (Kaplan Center) on the 6th floor by appointment.

Printing: The printers in the Library are available for use.  To achieve social distancing, every other printer is operational. Cleaning supplies are in the printing areas.  Send a job to the printer from your own device anywhere by uploading it at printing.baruch.cuny.edu.  Please take advantage of our remote printing service by submitting your job before you come to the library. That way you will be able to just walk to any printer and release the job.  There is no need to wait in line in the library to submit a print job.

Group Study Rooms: All the study rooms in the Library are available to students on a first-come, first-served basis.  The doors to the rooms are kept unlocked, so there is no need to borrow a key at the circulation desk.  The rooms are intended for individual students to attend an online class while they are on campus.  However, multiple students may use a room if masks are worn.

Calculator Loan:  In Winter 2022 Session the circulation desk in the library has a limited number of calculators for loan.

Equipment Loans (laptops, iPads, etc.): Equipment loans are transacted at the technology loan desk on site in the Library.  The items available for loan and the associated loan periods are listed on the Library’s technology loan services page.  A few items are available for semester-long loan while supplies last.  They may be requested using the equipment loan form.

Book Returns: The book drop is available in the lobby outside the Library to enable users to return books without having to enter the library.

Equipment Returns: Laptops, iPads, Chromebooks and other types of equipment should be returned at the technology loan desk.  Please do not place these in the book drop.  Contact [email protected] for assistance with special circumstances.

Interlibrary Loan: Interlibrary loan service has resumed, but borrowing from other institutions still has limitations due to Covid-19.  Details are posted on the ILL service web page.

Scanning Stations: The scanning stations are not available at this time.

Course-Related Lectures: The Library’s faculty will continue to provide research sessions for classes in other academic departments.  Instructors who request a session from the Library should expect that it will be delivered remotely via Zoom.
