  1. I found your argument to be very compelling. I think it is interesting that you are taking not only homeless individuals but their pets into consideration as well. You provided a lot of strong evidence in proving the urgency of this matter as well as the beneficial component pets have on their owners whether homeless or not. However, I believe the large issue at hand is of homelessness; because, if state laws and regulations could minimize or diminish homelessness then by default the pets would have shelter as well. Also another factor to look at is that of stray animals. Many homeless individuals will take up stray cats and dogs as a form of companion; however, these animals never had a shelter to begin with. I definitely think providing homeless shelters that allow pets would be a cause effective solution. It was also great that you were able to provide the different benefits pets can have on individuals and the importance of animals overall.

    1. Thank you for comment Dona. I work in the animal welfare community and i know first hand what you mean about homeless pets. I work in a mostly low income area where public housing doesn’t allow for pets and folks that have come across some hard times have to surrender their pets because of housing rules. I think like you mentioned the larger issue is homelessness in this city and housing requirements. Policy changes in both these areas could alleviate the amount of animals that are put into the streets or placed in the shelter system.
