For my project, I would like to interview a teacher/child care worker and get an idea of how it is to be back in classrooms and working after the quarantine that had closed down schools and made schooling virtual. Also, I would like to get the teacher’s perspective on how it was to go from interacting with their students in person to doing it online. And even thoughts on how it is to work with parents in ensuring a better school year for students.

Radio Pitch
I’d like to do a story about one of the ‘hidden’ gardens around the city. I would plan to interview some of the volunteers that run the garden and get some of the natural sounds there like waterfalls, birds, etc.
Radio Pitch
For my radio piece I think I would like to interview real estate agents and homeowners about gentrification in the city. I think the housing market is in an interesting place right now, and it would be a good thing to put some focus on. The audio aspect of this would be interesting if we could hear people talking about their homes and communities, because I think it can bring a very personal touch to that discussion.
Radio Pitch
Audio Essay Assignment
For my audio assignment I plan to interview the film score composer Chris Hajian. He has worked on movies like The Infiltrator and Critical Thinking to come up with original soundtracks. He recently released a new album and offered to have me come in to his studio for an interview and to audio record some of his music. Hajian’s charismatic and upbeat attitude and the nature of his profession would lend itself well to an audio essay.
Radio pitch
I leave near vanwick expy, near the atlantic ave exit, I always see this group of 4 people there homeless, I’ve seen them for years pre -pandemic to yesterday. I would like to interview them for my radio assignment.
Radio Story Pitch
For my radio pitch I plan on interviewing essential workers who worked throughout the pandemic. I would like to hear about their experiences, fear and now covid vaccine mandate.
Radio Pitch
For my radio project, I plan to interview a local deli owner who took over the business right before the pandemic struck. I would capture the sounds that exist in the deli such as the bell dinging when the door opening.
Radio Story Pitch
For my radio project I would like to attend an event at the Socrates Sculpture Park. There are two events that I have in mind, and I believe either of those would make for a great radio story. The first event is about poets and writers coming to read their work. I would hope to interview possibly some of the poets or writers.
A second event that I am interested in attending is the opening to an exhibition. An artist is presenting a new sculpture. But I think it would work for a radio story because these would be live activations of sculptures, some of which I think would involve music.
Both events I imagine would be filled with a fairly sized audience which would allow for some great background noises.
Radio Story Pitch
For my radio story I want to speak on the rise of violent acts on the New York Subway transportation system. According to the New York Post, “Subway crime rates soared amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 compared to 2019, when NYPD recorded a comparatively scant 1.47 felonies million riders.”
I have found myself with incredibly high paranoia when on the train due to recent crime rates. The goal of my story is to ask other New Yorkers who like most of us need the public transportation daily to get around the city quickly. Even with a car, parking is an issue therefore most New Yorkers depend on the underground transit.
I believe this will make a good radio story because I can incorporate some noise from the train itself as I catch New Yorkers heading out. Even the turnstiles are a good sound effect for this sort of story.
The goal of the story is to get the answer the question, Do New Yorkers feel safe while riding the train? Would they prefer the inconvenience of parking over feeling unsafe on their ride to work or school? What can the city do to feel safer?
