Thesis Abstract

What is your research question/rhetorical situation?
My research question is “How do the pressures exerted by immigrant parents impact the mental health of their children?”
What is your connection to rhetorical situations and why are you uniquely placed to write about it?
I’m a second generation immigrant meaning my parents are both immigrants, making me directly connected to the rhetorical situation as I’ve experienced pressure placed onto me in terms of education and overall achieving success. I believe I’m uniquely placed to write about it because my experiences align with the topic making me have a personal connection to the topic to create substance in what I’m writing.
Where do you imagine your writing “existing”? (newspaper, magazine, youtube, personal blog) Who is your target audience? Why is this form the most effective way to communicate to your target audience?
I think my target audience would be immigrant parents. The goal of my writing is to give them an insight on what the effect of the pressure they’re placing onto their children is, and how they can help their children achieve success through positive reinforcement and other methods. This is why I would imagine my writing “existing” in newspapers and magazines, a more traditional and old-school way of communication and immigrant parents aren’t the most tech-savvy.
What form will your writing take? (Research paper, narrative, letter, script.)
I want my form of writing to be personal, so I think a letter would be the most effective as a way of direct communication.
What is the value you’re trying to impart on your audience?
The value I aim to impart on the audience is an awareness of the significant difficulties faced by children as a result of the pressures from immigrant parents. By highlighting these challenges, I hope to foster understanding and empathy among readers.
