News and tips by and for staff providing reference services at the Newman Library, Baruch College (New York, NY).
Our subscription to Euromonitor has been restored. Please let me know if you still experience any problems.
The catalog will be down Tuesday 11/13 from 6am to 10am for system maintenance.
I am investigating with the vendor why the problem is.
When we go into Academic Search Complete or any other database we have on the EBSCOhost platform and click the “Choose Databases” link to bring up the window listing all the databases, we are unable to see the database descriptions that are linked to from each database in that “Choose Databases” window. For the databases on the right column, you can see half of the description window for any given database; for any on the right, the descriptions seem to be completely obscured.
Here’s an annotated screenshot that may better explain the problem:
I’ve reported this issue to EBSCO support and hope it will get resolved soon.
Our access to Euromonitor has been disabled until we finalize our new license agreement. The license is with the legal team.
Mike and I are testing new configurations for Books24x7 as we continue to look for a way to restore direct access from catalog records to specific books in the collection. One change you’ll notice (for the moment at least) is that if you launch Books24x7 from the databases page, you get asked to enter your Baruch username and password even if you are on campus. The links from specific books in the catalog still don’t work, but all books can be accessed if you go into the database from the databases page and then search for the book once you’re in the Books24x7 interface.
We will keep you posted of any other changes as we work our way to a solution.
The server issues from yesterday have been sorted out. Some mudslinging from librarians, though, had to be addressed by Springshare.
Springshare is reporting problems with its servers today. You may notice that LibGuides pages are slow to load or won’t load at all.
Please let me know if you still have trouble.
IBISWorld is currently not connecting, UNLESS your browser has their cookies from a previous session. This is happening both on and off-campus. I have contacted the vendor to solve this problem.
