Obesity has swept through Asian countries where the food is faster, fattier and the lifestyle more sedentary. In cities, processed foods and fast foods rich with sugar and fats are often the cheapest. That is why, fast foods are in demand. The World Health Organization reports that 6 out of 10 deaths in this region are due to the diseases that may be linked to obesity- heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, hypertension and some forms of cancer. One primary concern of the health officials is the spread of obesity among Asian children which leads to a severe form of a diabetes.  This ailment has been nicknamed “diabesity.” Experts say that it has been rising by 9 percent a year. The government in China says that the main reason why children are becoming obese is because of parents being overindulgent. While, Dr. Litonjua blamed what he called “malling” which he defined as spending the day in shopping malls and eating at fast food restaurants.

Inaccurate calories counting in Fast-food restaurants

You shouldn’t take the calories amount from menus in fast-food restaurants too seriously, because most of the fast-food restaurants are not so serious at putting the correct amount as well. Researchers found most of the fast-food have a higher actual calories amount than the stated amount. Some argues that government intervention is necessary if fast-food industry keep the practice of hidden calories. Although Food and Drug Administration labels the variation of calories amount to be acceptable within 20 percent of overage, most of the food are at the 18 or so percent margin, and who knows if “some restaurants are worse than the others.” Susan B. Roberts, author or the research, said.

Fast-food worker strike

Most of us must have experiences working in a fast food restaurant. We all like fast food because it is so convenient and tasty. But do you know how much does a cashier earn per hour? This is not something new to us and we all know that working in a fast food restaurant can only get minimum wage. Therefore, many fast-food workers wanted to demand for a higher wage and held the one-day strikes throughout the country. Many workers demand for $15 wages. Honestly, getting $7.40 can’t even support their family and daily needs. Even though the workers may not get $15 an hour, these strikes catch the world’s attention and hopefully they will get a higher wages.
