Police outside the Nassau County business where two people were shot, setting off a manhunt.
Approximately one month ago, shots were fired in Nassau County, New York, around Roosevelt Field Mall. Two people were hit; one was killed and the other was seriously wounded. The gunman was identified as Sang Ho Kim, 63, from Fresh Meadows, Queens.

The shooting occurred at around 10 AM at a lighting fixture company in East Garden City, New York – just a few blocks away from the mall. Police were at the scene very quickly. Shootings seldom occur in the area and it shocked many of the local residents.
After investigation, the police declared that Sang, who had no previous criminal record, was not out shooting randomly. He knew his victims and was very furious about a business deal that turned his relationship with them sour. He was angry at the business’ owner, who had been good friends with him for several years but just recently forced him to resign. Sang’s wife said he was owed more than $10,000 from the company.
“He couldn’t sleep well,” she said. “His chest filled with anger.”
On the morning of September 25th, Sang headed out in an attempt to settle the dispute. His wife called him several times but he didn’t pick up. She became increasingly worried. Sang disappeared after the shooting, as a search went out for him.
An employee, 25-year-old Zachariah Yong Jae Shin, was killed, and the company’s chief executive, John Choi, was wounded.
Sang Ho Kim’s body was found floating in the Hudson River five days later.
Although it’s possible to begin to sympathize with Sang, since he lost his job unfairly, you cannot overlook the fact that he tried killing a man to get revenge. This was a very cruel move by him, especially considering he shot one of the innocent employees. In the end, Sang Ho Kim was a guilty man and should have been arrested. He most likely realized that what he did was unjust and eventually, out of guilt, committed suicide.
