¶ 1 Leave a comment on paragraph 1 0 “Disemboweled himself’- it is also called “sepukku”, a ritual suicide in military ranks. Unlike in western culture it is considered the most honorable form of death.

¶ 4 Leave a comment on paragraph 4 1 “The day which, for a soldier’s wife, had to come, has come. . . .”-Reiko, lieutenant’s wife feels a moral obligation to follows her husband wishes. She is aware that ‘sepukku’ must happen, and that there is no way out of it.

I totally agree with your interpretation of this quotation. I also thought right away that she almost awaited this day and knew that this was a part of her fate as a lieutenants wife.
