Pay Attention! Or, what is our brain on the Internet?

This poem is about self-conflict of I and the other “I”. It shows that thee “I” was one in the beginning and became two. The other “I” always was always in the way of I. For example, the author wrote, “I comes through, a little. In moments. And gets pushed back by the Other I. Other I get tired.” Both of these I’s are conflicting each other. Later the “I” notices that the other “I” is the other “I”. The other “I” becomes a me.
I chose this poem because I love how this poem isn’t about love, hate, or any of those cliché poems. I like the confliction of I. There is many biblical text that I can related this too. Like the part of “In the beginning was I, and I was good.” Is similar to the text in Genesis of God making earth and him seeing that it was good. Also another text of “I am not only my brother’s keeper. I am my brother” is another reference to Genesis of the story of Cain and Abel. I would love to connect these sources to this poem because it fits perfectly.

I think the digital part and poem part make this Paper sound complex and a lot of work. I dont really know much about video making but i will like to learn. Also Im not a big fan of poetry, I find most difficult to comprehend there full meaning which makes me loose interest. The poem i chose was “Strings” from  the electronic poems. I chose this poem because it caught my attention and havent seen any electronic poems before. This poem is kind of easy to interpret and doesnt have much words. Im not sure if this poem is enough to base my Paper on.

For the digital part of the essay, I do have experience making flash animations and videos using clips and music so I’m a bit unsure what I should do. I don’t really like poem that are figurative since it gets annoying figuring out what the authoring is really saying. I am a simple person so I will be keeping this digital essay short and to the point.

Update: I’m not exactly someone who is fond of poems. Finding a poem was a bit difficult since I am more of a literal person then figurative. I like it when things are simple and to the point. Poems are just about the opposite of that. The poem I’ll be working with is the road not taken by Robert Frost. For the digital part, I want to make a short video of what I think of the poem and what the main idea of the poem is to me.

Although  the idea of a digital essay is very interesting it is also very Scary. I have never made a digital essay before and it is scary that this paper and digital assignments are our last grades. I hope I can push away the educational aspect of this at times and just enjoy the project. I am not sure what poem to choose because I want the poems message to be clear so that it wont be complicated to portray it in the digital essay.

The hardest part of this assignment for me will be coming up with a good thesis. If I can get a good thesis I believe that my digital essay will be better as well.

This might sound repetitive but I also been thinking just like everyone else, how is it possible to make an argument out of a poem/ video. I have a great idea but not great enough I think. When we spoke about this I was extremely confuse when I heard about this. However professor kaufman showed us different videos and then explained the poem they had used. I got the point after that.

I have a great idea on how I want to use this but don’t know how it can relate to me poem and how I can make an argument out of this that is my major concern. THESIS is a extremely scary word to me. It’s like a challenge that I cant same to over come. I want to use this specific poem cause I has this video in my mind that will work perfect. But how exactly to make a argument?.

For this digital part of the assignment, I plan on making a video of the poem that I choose. I am not sure if I am going to choose “Smile” by Eileen Myles. However if i do choose it, I will closely look at the words of the poem and film according to what the words are saying. I dont really want to make a skit or have people do dialogues, rather I might put some background music.
The film will incorporate my perspective of the poem. It will include the images that I saw in my head while I was reading it. Hopefully, my audience will understand what the poet and I are trying to portray.

I feel pretty confident about the digital part of the assignment. There are endless options for how to visually express the poem. My main concern is about writing the paper. I’m afraid of making a thesis which is too cliche. I think after a few attempts I’ll know what I’m doing. Also, I think if I do the digital part first, I might have a better idea of where I want to go and how to get there.

I’m actually excited to to begin my digital essay. I took a film class in high school and loved it. I hope to use the skills I gained from that class and make a great digital project. The video i make will allow my viewers/readers to get a better understanding of my thesis and overall essay. Although I’m pretty confused about the whole assignment, i’m confident in the digital essay part of it. I love technology and love that i can use it for an assignment.

Although i can say i am confident to start my project, i still need to get an outline down for it. I don’t know where to begin. I am not sure if i want to use the same poem i chose for the reading response assignment for my essay. I’ll have to research more and find out more information about the poet and poem.
