Benjamin brings up a great point that reproduction of a piece of art has become normal. People are able to imitate artwork from famous artist to either have a similar piece or to sell it for profit. This has become easier with the evolution of our technology and since most artist do not paint in a classical matter anymore. Artist now are more modern in the sense that they screen print or print their artwork. I always questioned about screen printing since I took a class on the matter, if the artwork is truly an original piece. Anything that is made from screen print can be reproduced any time and for me that takes the originality away unless the artist signs the artwork or something like that. Yet I would also see what he means when an art piece has history from its previous owners and natural damages it may take from the amount of time it’s been on earth. Things that could be screen printed can also have this, like previous famous owners or a scratch that happened because the artist scratched it by accident. It’s hard to take a stance in the matter since I work with screen prints and also paint and consider both of my works original. I also see his point on which he believes that photography has underline the importance of painters. Anything can be capture perfectly now, art used to be about how beautiful something would look but now we focus more on the meaning behind the artwork. Since most people have cameras we do not really care for how realistic something can look like because anyone can take a photo but we do care about the ideas and significance of artwork. We want artist to bring something new to the table something that can spark up a conversation and change art narrative.
