After reading analysis of college graduate Andre, this article also talks about some potential job opportunities for the college students as “Michael Jackson, founder and chairman of Shaping Tomorrow (said), a British research and analysis service focused on the future. A college degree alone won’t be a free pass to employment anymore.” He has the same viewpoint like what our text said. Regarding Andre’s problem, it directly reflects the whole picture of our society. Since ancient human being used to live together and affected with each other. It built up a society. And it decides that if one person wants to approach success and get respect by others, he must adapt the tendency of the society development.

In this article, the author believes that “Hot jobs of the future will focus on health care, science, high-tech,” which Andre is good at high-tech. However, comparing with other competitors, he might not be versatile, such as the bilingual skills. Now, more and more America IT companies move their program development department oversea, such as India or China and involve the international business. In the U.S.A., some positions may open to the leader, such as manager level positions. As a leader of a team, if they could speak over two languages, they will easily deal with multinational issues and fluently communicate with their foreign clients. In addition, high-technology and health care jobs may require some related job experiences. In this situation, those graduates who own leadership skills and have various working experiences may previously stand out. All of above requirement come from changing structure of our society. Even you don’t or might not believe: globalization is a trend among IT or other high-tech filed. Our world becomes smaller and smaller in this way. We are country difference but we are also common in many ways. As a college student like Andre, are you ready to find your positioning globally?

I believe college degree is still essential for long terms career although it won’t be a free pass to employment anymore. In a competitive field such as IT field, experiences and multi-skills are important in order to compete against other. In IT field experience is more important than a college degree because you may mess up the computer and cause more troubles if you have no experience. No IT managers are willing to take risk to hire someone who doesn’t have experience. However, Andre still can find internship because he has college degree. Most corporation or big companies are willing to hire new college graduate as internship and train them. It’s just that Andre needs to know where to start to look for after he graduates.
College helps the students to prepare for looking job and it doesn’t get a job for you. However, with college degree, you become more competitive. Getting a college degree improve the overall knowledge level and prepare them to adapt to the social life.
I agree that the IT field, science and health care are remaining hot in the job market. However, due to the job demand of these fields, more people are willing to change their careers to these fields, which may bring more competitions. A lot of the IT companies also moved their development department to oversea such as China and Taiwan. Andre needs to know the requirement of the job market in order to land a job and i suggest he needs some research at this area.

I understand that you wrote about experience also very important when you applied for a job. Especially, in a down economy, it’s very necessary to take a hard look at your career to determine what you really need to succeed in the field.
In American society, a college degree is one of the most important elements to become successful in life. However, as my personal experience which I am working in the Human Resources Department, I believe that leaders are more pay attention to the employee’s experience rather than degree, because experience is also a knowledge but can not learn from books.
Most students choose to study at a for-profit university in order to succeed after they graduate. Unfortunately, their tuition bills are too high when they finish their courses, but they are not able to pay for it. In some cases, they find a job that is not related to their field of study but they have choices because the debt is always there. In addition, they must work many years to pay it back. Other reason is that Students at this time cannot find a job in their field of education to connect their degree because they have not been given adequate training. Such as Andre was a excellent student in his school, but he could not find a stable job when he was graduated, because no only his was in a down economy, but also he lack of skills which are related to his major.

With more and more people graduating from college every year, how can society possibly employ all of them? Today, everyone essentially holds the same degree. How would you stand out among someone else who holds the same degree and qualifications? How would an employer choose to interview out of the hundreds of resumes he gets every day? There is no clear answer in black and white, but it really comes down to you as an individual and the experiences you have gained along the way. One of the most fundamentals an employer look for is relevant experience and dedication to that field. If he were comparing resumes with someone with a straight 4.0 average with a blank resume and someone with slightly below at 3.4 with resume clearly showing he’s an active student, he would choose the latter. In fact, according to many sources, employers would often choose to employ those who are highly active in school or clubs because they will have great interpersonal skills, organizational skills and many other strengths that a firm look. Just having the grades wouldn’t be impressive to an employer.

In regards to “Hot jobs of the future will focus on health care, science, high-tech,” these jobs are now being outsourced to many individuals from third world countries. The term “brain drain” is applied here and what this means is highly intelligent individual from the undeveloped countries such as Africa, parts of India emigrate to the industrialized nations such as the US, Russia and UK. The job market is diminishing from the influx of these emigrates and people at home fighting for the same job.
