The Art Of Social Media Book Review

This book, The Art Of Social Media, is a guide with over 100 practical tips that shows you how to treat your social media presence like a business in order to get the attention needed for your brand, product and service.  A little background on the author, Guy Kawasaki, in 1983 joined Apple, became chief evangelist and was responsible for the marketing of the Macintosh.  Over the years he became an expert in social media since he was involved with many platforms and he used this knowledge to create this guide which had 2 lessons that stood out to me.

1. Treat your social media with professionalism

He asked the question “Why does your softball team never win and make it to the top of the league? Which he answered with “Because it’s a hobby.” Many people will play the sport and say they want to win but in reality they just want to hang with their friends, throw around the ball, which is okay, but that means that one cannot complain about losing. If you want to win you must take it serious and sacrifice time and put in a lot of effort. “If you want to succeed, you’ll have to treat it as if you’re going to go pro.”

Same thing with your social media. he says to use your full name, you should make sure all your pictures are clear and shows your winning smile. You have to start posting relevant things that relate to the people you want to connect with.

2. Cross Promotion

Cross promotion is the cooperative marketing within two or more accounts. The purpose of this is to direct your followers from one account to the other in order to increase your follower base. I see this all the time now on Instagram. Someone posts a video announcing that they’re going to do a give away or give important information that will ONLY be on their Facebook page. What people do is go to this persons other account and if they haven’t already followed them then they end up doing so they can see this very “important” promotion.

Why you should read this?

Everyone’s social media account is a company.  The cost of marketing your brand or business is practically zero. You can do anything, you can start your own show on Youtube, Release your own music on Soundcloud and become a photographer on Instagram. This book will really give you innovative ideas  for your own social media account.

The Lean Start Up Book Review

As an Aspiring Entrepreneur I find myself with business ideas but I never know if they’re good enough or worth forming a company around it.  An old professor  of mine recommended “The Lean Startup: How Today’s Entrepreneurs Use Continuous Innovation to Create Radically Successful Businesses” by Eric Ries. The author defines a startup as an organization dedicated to creating something new under conditions of extreme uncertainty. This can be applied to a person who works in a garage just as much as to a group of professionals in a Fortune 500 Boardroom. What both these parties have in common is the intention of discovering a prosperous path to a sustainable and wealthy business.

Throughout The Lean Startup, Eric Ries talks about companies that have and are capital efficient and have a high sense of effective creativity, which are used in order to teach certain lessons about lean manufacturing which is made up of “validated learning,” rapid scientific experiments, methods that shorten the product development cycles and learning what customers truly want. According to the book, if implemented can enable a company to shift directions with agility and allows a company to adapt quicker.

Why should you read this?

Instead of wasting your time creating huge and extremely detailed business plans , this book offers entrepreneurs and business men/women a way to test their visions without on a smaller scale that shrinks the amount of risk in failure.

From this book, I’ve personally implemented this information in order to generate my own Social Media Marketing Business. I created this blog which is an inexpensive way in which I can market and reach thousands of people. Seeing the reaction from my readers and their feedback really shows that  WikiMedia can become a viable innovative company. However, If i hadn’t read this book I would of gone with a riskier route route, opened my Social Media Marketing Agency without a clue whether is would work or not.

Personal Branding is the practice of marketing yourself and/or your career as a brand . This has become an uprising trend for Vloggers, who are Youtubers that create video blogs of their personal lives and verified Public Figures on Instagram . It’s 2018! If you don’t have a social media account you’re at an extreme disadvantage in your personal, professional and business life. Personal branding has become necessary for any person, like yourself, that is looking to get a job, get noticed, grow their business and potentially take your own career to the next level.

Personal Branding is about the constant process of establishing impressions and images in the minds of other people about yourself. Every single one of you has their own unique personal brand, whether you have noticed or not. Every time you post on your Instagram or Facebook you’re inviting people to analyze and observe what and who you are. If you do successfully create a personal brand that people enjoy than these are some of the opportunities you can create for yourself:

1. Opportunities come to you

When you get to a point where your personal brand gets a lot of attention customers, vendors and sponsors come to you to offer you gigs or jobs. I’ve seen many Youtubers and Instagramers that consistently get products and services for free from company’s that want to be seen by the millions of followers you have. All you really have to do is make a post on your social media reviewing the actual product,  it’s as easy as it sounds.

These people want you to work along side them and they’re willing to pay the price just for your presence. At my current job they have gotten in contact with public figures such as Sebastian Vazquez (former NYCFC player), Alexander Ospina (Colombian Public Figure) and Wonder Boy ( Up and coming Latin Trap Artist). These public figures who have  created their own successful personal brand received a free service at my job, which by the way is not cheap, just so that our service can be seen by millions of people that follow these artists Instagram pages.

2. Increase Online Networking Capabilities

When you have a interesting personal brand, people find you desirable and are willing to connect with you. Your follower base increases as the days go by. As that goes on, every time you have something to say or show more people will be listening henceforth an increase in online networking power.

3. In-Person Networking Power

This is very similar to point number 1. People want to speak to you offer you opportunities but on the contrary you can get something out of them. If you’re planning a project that will help your business or in any aspect in life these people are more than willing to assist you. You can meet and get in contact with the best companies in the field that you’re looking for. It eliminates any possible problem you might incur and you can almost guarantee that your project will result in the way you wanted it.

4. Build Your Business

By having a strong personal brand already established creates the process of building your business that much easier and quicker. Lets take Kylie Jenner for example, we all know how she is part of the famous Kardashian family and she created her own make-up company in 2016. What you might not know is that within the first 18 months since she released her company she generated $420 million in Sales, you can thank her 107 million Instagram followers for that.

5. Confidence

Having developed a personal brand means you need to have an authentic voice, something that sticks to people when they hear it, something unique. In order to have that you must have a high level of confidence and self-esteem. Having confidence results in positive reactions from your audience.

6.  Make New Friends

Of course when you’re a public figure EVERYONE will want to be your friend. It give you a chance to show people what you’re really about, who you are as a person and your core values.

Whether you’re trying to get a job, get noticed or build a business, a powerful and entertaining brand is key. It helps build you reputation and credibility but most importantly it can bring you lots of success in life and in your profession.

Welcome!

Hello there reader! My name is Bryan Nunez and welcome to my About me Page. I am a 22 year old student at Baruch College, I am currently in my last year of undergrad, pursuing Entrepreneurial Management. I’ve always been around a business environment as I spent my summer vacations and weekends at my family business in the city where I took on Junior positions just to pass the time. So I grew up with that business mentality and wanted to pursue in it because well, it was the only thing I really knew and was exposed to.

Since my high school days I’ve  been a fan of Social Media, I created a Facebook Page as soon as found out what It was and there after I’ve continued onto Instagram and twitter. It has always fascinated me how simple it is to be able to communicate and stay in touch with people through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Social Media has allowed me to keep me up to date on all of the important moments of people like my girlfriend that I see almost everyday or my cousin who is in the Marines who I see once a year or even that guy that sat next to me on the bus in the 3rd grade. There is a lot you can do with Social Media in today’s technological era. Due to this advancement things such self branding and business exposure has become easier to achieve.

I decided to create this Blog for small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs like myself that want advice on how to get started on their own self brand or to stay up to date on new methods that have helped me and small business owners that want their product/service to be known by everyday social media users.
