Empty Buzz
After the buzzer had sounded we stood around
The journey had come to an end
With the journey went the joy
Out the window and into reality
After the buzzer had sounded I found that I was empty
A team had won but I didn’t
There was a game and we cheered
There was triumph and defeat
None of it had meant anything after it was over
After the buzzer had sounded I found that I was hungry
So I went to the cupboard of life looking for something to eat
The cupboard was barren save for the cobwebs and roaches
After the buzzer had sounded the game was over but there was still plenty to do
There was the matter of what to do with the lame
The matter of what to do with the sick
The matter of what to do with the hungry
The matter of what to do with the hurt
After the buzzer had sounded the game was over
That’s when life really began
After the buzzer sounded I stepped into real life
I had come to realize life resembled a game
There was everything to do, but nothing to do it for
