Many people believe Hamilton isn’t a revolutionary play. I completely disagree with these people. Hamilton has turned way too many heads for it not to be. The integration of rap and history has turned Hamilton into a sensation musical and political statement. By Hamilton becoming this popular, we can say that culturally this can change theatre or at least make people aware that theatre can be about anything and everything with all kinds of different people on and off stage. Contemporary theatre is bringing so beautiful things together!

Scavenger Hunt
The scavenger hunt was a pretty eventful hour for my group and I. Although we all dreaded the rain, we still had a pretty adventurous time. At first, it seemed like the list was very overwhelming, but once we started looking closer, we realized that most of the things we were looking for were primarily very close to one another. It was very interesting to see how we could find about 10 items within a 8 block radius.
It was hard to get the most points because my group was at a disadvantage. We only had 3 people so we really pushed through when trying to find as many items as we could. Instead of us 3 splitting up with half of us going uptown and half of us going downtown we ended up sticking together and going to Times Square. Heading to Times Square had to be the best idea. It wasn’t a surprise to find most things were located there. My team and I ended up getting 8 points and we are proud that we worked together to do so.
Overall, the scavenger hunt was a fun idea. It was a great way to find out more about theatre in the city. I wouldn’t had known have the things about theatre if it wasn’t for this scavenger hunt. It really opened my eyes to find out how much history this city has and what it has to offer.
Blog Post #4
I believe when it comes to globalization, the act of exposing different cultures played a big part. Not only did it expose different cultures, but it also questioned many customs in regards to what was ok to put on stage and what was not. Also, when globalization was becoming a real thing, how accurate was theatre and the cultures they added? Was globalization a chance to help cultures or to make fun of them?
Critical Question: A Doll’s House
How would Nora’s character be viewed back then compared to today? During the time the play had come out, women weren’t supposed to really be people of society, but only supporters for men. Now seeing that Nora has a voice of her own, do you believe audience’s liked to watch such a play?
Blog Post
Realism and modernism can easily be related to each other. Although they have their similarities, the difference for me is that modernism focuses more on the human conscious, as realism focuses more on the centralization of “everyday life.” Out of the plays mentioned, I am most familiar with Death of a Salesman and I can see the theme focusing on the human conscious surfacing.
Critical Question #5
It is interesting to read what avante-garde literally means and what it means in theatre. Do you believe avante-garde Art could be unconventional art? How do you define a piece of art to be ahead of its time?
Theatre, Nation and Empire Critical Question
It is very interesting how the printing press and theatre very much so influenced each other. Do you believe this hold true today? Public opinion I believe is stronger than ever, especially amongst the youth. Do you think that we can make connections through different mediums that hold this same relationship just like theatre and the printing press?
Melodrama
It is funny to think that Melodramas still exist today. Although they seem to be so different from the 1800s, we can see and point out a lot of similarities. Melodrama adaptations are very common. Also, the stories have not changed much at all since they first started. This says a lot about our society today, how people react to these same situations, and how our emotions haven’t really outgrown these stories at all.
Museum of the City of New York
Going to the Yiddish exhibit at the museum was such a wonderful experience. I had no idea that Yiddish theatre had such an effect on theatre in New York City. The part of the exhibit that struck me the most was seeing how Molly Picon had such an impact in her time. Being that she wasn’t the tall pretty ingenue typecast character normally played by woman by in the day, it was amazing to see how a woman like her in her day in age could have been so huge. She is definitely a true role model for her time and in modern days for woman all over, especially because she broke many barriers for woman in theatre.
NYPL Post
I really enjoyed learning about all the archives at the NYPL. It is incredible to actually see first hand how many historical pieces of theatre we can keep track of. To really dive into these archives and see the process of how things were made, made it a very personal and informative experience for me. Also attending this field trip made me feel like I have more of an idea of how to go about my project and what to get excited for!
