Contemporary Theatre

It is really interesting reading all these reviews about “Hamilton” being such a different and original form of theatre. Even if you have never heard of the play, after getting 16 Tony Nominations, I’m pretty sure everyone would want to see it now. “Hamilton” is now going to be taught in future theatre history courses, and will be used by newer productions on Broadway as an example. It really bugs to me to know that I might never get to watch it now since the ticket prices have gone through the roof.

Contemporary Theatre

Nowadays, there are many kinds of theatre. Hamilton, who is a very important person in history of the United States, is in the theatre. Probably, people can guess that theatre is related with historical person might be serious. But, theatre “Hamilton” by Thomas Kail and starring Mr. Miranda is different. Even there are more many historical important people such as Washington, Jefferson, Madison, the show is consisting of rap, hip-hop, R&B ballads. Like some culture has been changed by time, theatre is also changed to be adapted for people by different time. Who knows that someday theatre is performed like different ways that is performed by robots or something like that.

Contemporary Theater

It only makes sense that theater adapt to the times. Hamilton has gotten rave reviews, and sky rocket ticket prices. After reading some reviews, I believe that it has to be something special. I think it’s great that theater did something out of the box once again. The production of Hamilton shows that theater can evolve as well, and it’s working.I couldn’t understand at first why Hamilton was so special, however, after participating in this class and understanding theater a little better I can appreciate the importance of this play.

As for immersive theater, I think it’s difficult. You have to rely on your audience to be the show. I think it makes the directors think more and plan more for the show. Going to theater that you participate in is not for everyone. I’m not sure if I would like it, but i would like to try it sometime. I can appreciate when a production relies on its audience to make the show what it is. It’s a different experience that you get. It’s not for everyone, but I think this too shows how theater evolves to the times.

Contemporary Theater

Contemporary theater has to be by far one of the most interesting forms of theater that I’ve learned about this semester. “Hamilton” breaks most of the cookie cutter rules for a Broadway musical and thats what makes it amazing. I have not seen it yet but the more I hear and read about it, the more I want to see it. The reviews about “Hamilton” just simply explain how it’s so great because not only does it include most genres of music not usually in Broadway musicals, but also how the people would most likely probably be during colonial times. It’s considered a breath of fresh air and because of the many rules it has broken, that’s what gives it an edge and makes it unique. “Starring Me” was fun to read because I love immersive experiences like that, because I feel as though they allow you to experience a different reality. There’s one that comes to Manhattan every halloween that’s considered to be a “haunted house” but it’s actually an immersive show that highlights the dark elements of life and what people actually go through. I forget the name and can’t find it online but I didn’t get a chance to go last year but I will definitely make it this year. I think it was called Blackout but I’m not sure it might be another one.

Hamilton, paved the way for a monumental Broadway experience with its fresh style and playwright. “Brilliant. Hamilton is one of the most exhilarating experiences I’ve had in a theater. Bold, rousing, sexy, tear-jerking and historically respectful — the sort of production that asks you to think afresh about your country and your life.” (David Brooks, The New York Times) I’ve read various Hamilton reviews and they’ve captivated my attention with the regards that Broadway will go to any extent to maximize their profits overall appeal. Contemporary Theater utilize their resources to alternate this work of Hamilton and remake it into a more exhilarating play. However, some people might enjoy the classic play and would want to see the original version. Leading to the idea that Theater is fundamental progressing and evolving with every alternation. They will continue to change in the favor of the public viewers/audience members.

When i watched short film about “Hamilton”, i felt like fresh as i watched in the Heights because it used a rap for song. I watched many musicals so far but here is a different thing. That is traditional or normal musical uses typically a “Musical Song” that has narrative, however, the Hamilton has a new type song that does not use at all before like rap even the background and costume of the Hamilton is about old. In this point, a question pop in my mind that yes, I like this kind of music in the musical, but can it be a mainstream of Broadway? And, for the contemporary art, it is getting become a hard to understand since they broke the boarder line between arts. In terms of mine, classical art is easy to understand and hard to do but the contemporary art is hard to understand but easy to do. Do you think that the contemporary art-even include theater, close enough to audience to make them entertainment or for fun? The classical art is a intuitive work , on the other sidethe contemporary art is a abstract work.

Building blocks of originality

Having studied theater forms of the past for the last few months, puts contemporary theater into perspective. One way of looking at the histories of theater, as we have spoken about in class, is that they had a kind of “building block” effect on the types of theater that came after them. Whether these types were formed from or in opposition to their predecessors. In regards to Immersive theater, though the form is relatively new, I feel as if there are many past forms that had begun the work of paving the way for different kinds of audience experiences (examples include Boal’s Forum Theater and the “sepct-actor experience”, and the rise of performance art). However, this doesn’t mean the form is not original, because it does create an experience that one has never historically had before in a theatrical setting.

Contemporary Theater

Hamilton is popular, I totally get why there’s so much hype, and I’m considering listening to the cast recording. I wouldn’t really know if the show is overrated, because I haven’t seen it, and Im not into the whole theater and musical scene. I found the tone of the articles slightly annoying, especially the parts about rap, hip-hop, and R&B. I feel like a hipster, because these genres have always been cool to me, so it’s weird reading reviews gushing about the use of it in this musical.

I listened to and read the lyrics to “The Shuyler Sisters.” I though the song was really good, and it’s partially why I’m thinking about listening to the entire album of the cast recoding.

Contemporary Theater

Oh please! I’m so over reading those Hamilton reviews. Rap music and hip-hop  on stage as the “new, Innovative” theatrical experience is so over-rated.

I read the article starring me: A surreal Dive into Immersive Theater and I have to say it seems pretty weird. And to top it off the weirdest one was Broken Bone Bathtub where 6 audience members from the audience help the actor take a bath. Like wow, I can;t even imagine what that experience would be, can you? Would you help a stranger take a bath when if you go to a play?
