Rosenwasser’s has laid out very unique ways to analyze texts, and use these analysis skills in order to better understand writing, and ultimately write better. One of these ideas or techniques that I have not thought about before is looking for patterns. Repetition is one of the patterns that slips away from me when analyzing a writing, because when I see a repetition an idea, I would dismiss it as something redundant, however Rosenwasser showed that repetition could is a major sign of emphasis and should not be ignored
Another technique that is new to me is “breaking down” the text in order to get a better understanding of the whole text. When analyzing a text, I am more prone to “skimming” in order to get the main idea. However, Rosenwasser has shown that breaking down into parts can actually help find significant details and see how they are related. This in turn will paint a much clearer picture in the end.
Finally, when reading texts, one thing that Rosenwasser also shown to be helpful is to be careful with personal associations when reading. Different items could symbolize different things to people based on their background, however Rosenwasser demonstrated how it is important to be logical when reading, and not jumping to personal associations immediately, thus you need to gather enough evidence to turn implications explicit, quickly jumping to personal associations would not be the best way.
The idea you have that repetition of something in a writing can mean it is redundant is an idea I too shared before reading chapter one of Rossenwasser’s book. Also mentioning your third idea, I sometimes unknowingly connect personal associations when reading things, so I will definitely be more aware of this, and I will be careful in doing that. Great Post.
