What I found interesting in these passages is God’s swiftness to make decisions. His swiftness in deciding to drown all the humans and animals on Earth was a I found to be quite shocking. He quickly decided to kill man then quickly decided to spare him. It almost seems as if God’s decisions aren’t very grounded and his opinion towards all living things on Earth is constantly fluctuating.
Earth doesn’t seem to be God’s first priority. He floods the Earth and then forgets about it. Not until he remembers that Noah is still in his Ark does he relieve the Earth of it’s water. This is not necessarily a bad thing, in fact, it could be the most important lesson of all.
In this passage it says that we are built in God’s image and that we are not perfect, thus making God imperfect as well. He will act in spite or in anger just as we do. This is the encompassing lesson I found. We hurt, kill, deceive, love, hate and all other things that are considered “Bad” in the biblical sense, but these are the defining actions that make us human. We may do these horrible things, but we also do great things, such as building the Ark to save all living things. This is what makes us human, the balancing of good and evil, of light and dark, of night and day.
I disagree i believe that he created us in his image but would we no longer be in his image if we were constantly to be doomed. I believe that he is constantly giving us a chance to redeem our self to be redeemed and be in his favor.
You display a really interesting point. I agree that it seems as though Earth was not the first thing on his mind. Like we said in class about Noah’s Arc, God is no longer giving Earth a chance to restart. Therefore, we are not perfect.
If God is really as great as we thought, he would not make such rushing decisions, and that is why I never believed there is a god or supernatural power exists, but I do believed we will gain from what we have paid. If we do bad things, we will have bad consequences.
If we were to look mythologically about God’s decision, we can see his design of human’s to be a bit incomplete. Cain’s punishment revealed God’s design flaw of inheretly creating humans that wouldn’t kill another or disobeying God’s command. Cain did not roam the earth as a pessimestic, but built civilizations. Just like Skyler claimed, humans are capable of good and bad.
