Social media has become an outlet for expressing emotions, news, opinions and more. Utilizing social media like Twitter in an English class, surprisingly, brings education to a whole new vista. The ability to convey our ideas and emotions on a realistic and contemporary platform allows us the students to be more compelled to participate; so kudos the originator of this idea!
The greatest asset of this idea, is the live updates of our thoughts about the book. Twitter never sleeps, so now we don’t have to wait until a discussion time in class to release our thoughts about the book. We can draw insight from others about the same topic, but at a faster rate, possibly before an assignment so we can add on to our own thoughts.
Since Huckleberry Finn is an American classic, there are bound to be other students or enthusiasts tweeting about it. Our resources about learning about the book isn’t limited to the classroom setting by using social media. This is definitely an unprecedented idea in my educational career and among my friends. They sparked interested in this idea. Hopefully, it catches on with other instructors. After all, it adds more flavor than conventional teaching styles.
