At the beginning of the book, Gen G, Grant wrote a notice about for the book that states persons attempting to find a motive in it[ Huck Finn] will be prosecuted; Persons attempting to find a moral in it will be banished; Persons attempting to find a plot in it will be shot.

In my opinion, this is indeed a powerful opening sentence that immediately caught many readers’ attention as they will try to asked themselves questions such as the logic and reasoning of his statement. Perhaps Grant wanted to warn readers ahead of the many controversial nature and arguments which presented through out the book. As I delved into Huck Finn, I realized that the novel contains many questionable moral and ethnic issues, and thus, further supports Grant’s conclusion that person attempting to find a moral in the novel will be banished.

Next, Grant suggested that person who trys to find a plot in the book would be shot. Huck Finn interwines many characters and each of them has their unique personality. Pap, for example, epitomized how an acholholic addicts can be a public nusiance and liability when drinking irrationally. Thus, by interlopping between different characters and plots, it is no suprise that anyone would have a hard time trying to identify the main idea of the novel, as the book progress itself not chronogically, but more spontaneously.
