#cantprayalie

#cantprayalie is a hashtag we use to show religious motifs in the story line. Reading some of the tweets showed me that there was more to the story other than “simple southern ways of life”. Meaning that there were more religious meanings hidden in the text other than the ones simply written there.

Huck Finn is full of malicious lies and schemes. It is clear that many of the lies told are damaging to the people around them. Yet Huck himself tells a few lies himself and cons in order to protect Jim. This insight is part of Huck’s learning process because he realizes now that some of the rules that we was originally taught are wrong. Not because they are wrong but because sometimes lying is the right thing to do. You can see that sometimes, the lines between things such as lying, normal social structure, and religion are wrong.

There are also certain moments where Huck keeps referencing the devil, yet in the beginning of the novel he made it quite clear that he does not believe in religion. There are also multiple scenarios in which you can see that Huck indeed is a little afraid of god. As the novel progresses, I assume that Huck will eventually begin become more and more religious.
