1. Huck has a habit of forgetting his alias when he is lying. Huck doesn’t feel comfortable with the king and duke’s plan to rob the three orphan girls. We see that through his conversation with the hare lip girl, it was hard to keep up with the lies he was telling. He would say one thing that contradicted the information she already knew. I found that interesting because it speaks a lot to Huck’s morality/ beliefs. He doesn’t mind stealing little things but when it comes to taking a person for all they got, it doesn’t sit right with and that’s very respectable.
2. The duke knew the time was up on the scheme and he wanted to leave right after they found the hidden money. The king wanted to get them for all they had. even after the doctor called them out as frauds, the king was unshaken and wanted to continue with the plan. The duke could of put his foot down and said we are leaving with the money but he let the king talk him into staying. Why is the king’s greed so strong that he can’t even take a loss and walk away?
3. As the scheme begins huck realizes that he is the servant in the equation and he says “I am the N-word”. He had to stand behind the king and duke at the dinner table and serve the. Though he wasn’t truly treated like the slaves, I think if he was he would’ve understood Jim more. Huck would’ve understood Jim’s need for freedom.
I think your first point is interesting. He struggles to remember his alias, making it even more difficult to keep up with the lie. When he was trying to lie to the hare lip girl, he was struggling even though it was for the sake of good.
