1) Huck is street smart and his cons were always low in risk. Tom is book smart and he loves the ideas of an adventure. He love to turn the simplest thing into a difficult situation because he is a thrill junkie. Huck seems second guess himself a lot when he is around Tom. He ideas are always dismissed even when it may be the best way to handle things. He seems to idealize Tom because Tom is educated and he is from a different background then him.

2) I thought that the uncle was the one that was in charge of the household but in actually it’s Aunt Sally. She takes care of everything and everyone and she holds the reigns over her family. When Huck and Tom sent the letter to them about Jim, it was her that gathered up the farmers to fight against the “robbers”. I think that’s why they messed with her mind so much.

3)When they finally got Jim free and were back on the raft, they realized that Tom got shot in his calf. Though he is in pain he is happy because of how dangerous their escape was. what is the motivation behind Tom’s need forĀ  thrill/adventure? Is his family too ordinary?

  1. Peter Kang says:

It is weird that Huck follows through Tom Sawyer’s plan even though he knows it’s a lot more complicated. Tom wants to live a life that makes life more adventurous but more difficult; he loves to apply the things he read in the novels. But yet, Huck decides to follow through Tom’s delusional ideas. I completely dismissed the fact that Aunt Sally had more say in the family than did the uncle, very ironic for the time setting.
