journal entry 10

The scene in which Huck decides he is going to rescue Jim is an excellent display of the progression Huck has made as a protagonist. He realized his strengths and weaknesses. He shows that he can make his own decisions and do what he believes is right. He doesn’t believe that Jim should have to go back into slavery because they have come so far together.

Jim is the one person who actually understand him and they share a lot in common. Both share the simplistic mindset and yearn for freedom, regardless if their freedoms have separate meanings. This scene shows how close the two have become and how sync they are with each other. They don’t share the need for wild adventures like Tom Sawyer. They would have rather ran away at a time where dangerous risk were very low.

  1. I agree with you that this scene is a important scene in the novel which shows that Huck has become stronger and eventually chooses to do what he believes is right.
