For my overall design approach for my bag, I wanted to make sure that my message was understandable and powerful. In order to do this, I had to make sure that I had to do something visually so that the message grabs the attention of my audience. I choose to use medicine bottles for many reasons. The first reason was because I found a graphic during my research process of this project. My classmates thought that the graphic was interesting, so I decided to recreate the medicine bottles on Illustrator. I spread my message throughout the bag where typically the labels are found so that it worked and flowed correctly. Also, these medicine bottles represent how many bottles of medications a patient with Parkinson’s disease really goes through in a given year.
For my tag and logo design, I wanted to do that was unique and different. I was inspired by a YouTube video on how to create word art and I learned how to use this technique on illustrator. It was a long process, but at the end it would give my audience some words that are associated with the disease. For the inside of the bag, I decided to use strips of paper with known facts of Parkinson’s disease on them. I was inspired to do this from multiple examples that we saw in class.
For the typeface, I decided to use Helvetica Neue Medium. I choose this typeface because of its simplicity and easy to read. This typeface also does not take away from the design. Overall Helvetica is a simple typeface that is not to complicate and doesn’t take away from the full design elements
Overall this project has taught me many things. The first thing that it taught me is how to create a design that flows throughout, as opposed to a design that doesn’t flow. For me, it took me many times to do this, but it was a learning experience. Another concept that I learned from this project is how to design specifically for a target audience and your organization. It allowed me to understand designing in a more problem-solving manner as well.
