W11 Update

This week, I worked on the print side of my project. From last week’s meeting, I took into account the comments about bringing together the collective visually, as well as filling in content to make it less empty.

I played around with a few new graphics that repeat throughout the pages in different ways. I’m not sure if I’ll keep these, but they’re a start to hopefully a larger graphic system. This is introduced in the offer, with a rough tagline also plugged in.

The assignment is now filled in. The exact text will likely change as I edit, but the idea is there — in this issue, members paired up to create a custom product that could be sold off at a public auction in support of A Walk on Water. This organization runs surf therapy workshops for special needs children; proceeds would go towards putting the events on, and equipment needed to do so. I added a spread after the assignment that will speak about the organization that the issue is in partnership with — what they do, who they are, where they’re based.

I’ve also split the feature up into various spreads. The two opening, photo-centered spreads showcase the individuals who paired up. The images that are there now spotlight their craft, what they make. The third spread in the feature goes into the item that they created. This is a real-life collaboration, although not for the cause I’ve aimed it at.

Next week I want to finish up the feature pages, fill in the organization’s content and work out the kinks with the graphics. I also want to dig further into the cover. At the moment, I let it sit a bit to see where the content would go, so that hopefully then the cover would build itself out.
