The faculty who serve Baruch can have a lot to share if only a student asks them. I agree they can provide a lot of help in certain situations.

For the project, our contact Kate Suhr gave us additional info about God’s Love We Deliver in addition to that posted on their website. As support centers as in help, I haven’t sought any for this project although I may do so if I think it would help me on my assignment in the future.

Since the beginning of this fall semester, I have attended Large groups at Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. It’s probably one of the bigger student run clubs at Baruch and they have fliers out everywhere. On Thursdays during club hours, they usually have something unique every week, such as a guest speaker or a specific issue they want to address that week. I’ve found it to be a welcome break in my busy schedule.

First, having a fuller experience at Baruch can make you feel more at home and more comfortable when needing to request help, for example. Through clubs, you can make a few friends who share the same interests as you obviously and friends who have common interests have the most to talk about which can further increase your knowledge of business at Baruch and in general. As a demonstration, I learned that actuarial science is an area of study that’s really similar to accounting even though the name does not suggest it being a math related major.

Based on the vast number of organizations founded and run much like God’s Love We Deliver, to provide for the poor and handicapped or elderly in New York City, I began to get a sense of how many people want to help when they discover the reality of certain people’s lives.

In the next 3 years I hope I will find my place at Baruch and most importantly, settle on career goals and such because after school is finished in 3 years, work is most likely next in line.

Question:What does it mean to serve your community?

As a Baruch scholar I have the responsibility of meeting a certain standard, and to achieve that I must devote time to my studies…4 hours for math 3 hours for philosophy…etc. a week. That means I have to take it seriously. But aside from simply being able to recite the notes I took during the professors’ lectures, it’s also important that I can analyze and think for myself.

By being a dedicated student, I will be setting an example for other students …at Baruch, and probably for the college too because Baruch does have a reputation for it’s outstanding professors who lead students to become successful and right individuals.

As I volunteer in non-profit organizations such as parks, I will be giving back to my community because it is through their efforts to improve lives that allowed me to get  to where I am today…well I received a great education in public school, funded by the city so I have it to thank.

I think my role is to interact more with unfamiliar places and people because it will increase my tolerance and acceptance of others and their goals. And it will be for the good of the community because by while I work alongside others, I will have new experiences which will help me grow up.

The Honors Program encourages its students to prepare for life after college. One way to prepare is to first work for free…or volunteering, and I should not think of it in a negative light because what I get out of it is experience and you can’t put a price on that. It’s a win-win situation!

#1   Where Have You been and where are you going?

I come from a middle class family so I know that money is not easy to get. I have to learn the skills you need for the job that I are looking for, and hopefully I will find a vacant spot in a company’s employee position list. Having gotten to know the world through TV, stories, lectures, I learned to think for myself and not believe every word that the other person says.

I value the basic moral principles, and have courtesy towards my fellow man and respect authority. As for my beliefs, it is always right to be nice to other people. Or at the very least, don’t go around hurting others because it hurts you too at the end.

As a college student, I expect work and experience that will contribute to my growing up , becoming wiser and more intellectual. I also expect all the activities that I will get involved in to help make me prepared for a future career.

I hope to be able to get by in my first semester. In addition, making new friends in my FRO class and in my other classes would be very good. Having people to support my plans is probably very essential in life when everything is goal-oriented. Right now I’m just a little worried that something might go wrong, because it always happens. Whenever life is pushing you along, a bump in the road is there, waiting to get you.
