I am the ideal woman of eternity, at least according to the literal translation of my name, Mridula Zaman. If taken as two separate words, my first name, ‘Mridula’, means ‘the ideal woman’ in Sanskrit and my last name, ‘Zaman’, means ‘eternity’ in Arabic. Due to the shady definitions of “ideal”, my name leaves much room for interpretation. If “ideal” refers to perfection, than I am far from perfect. If “ideal” refers to “success”, then I doubt I’d claim to be successful. If “ideal” refers to “excellence”, then I can’t claim to encompass that either. Then why do I bring it up, you might ask? I bring it up because I have dedicated my life and continue to dedicate my life to live up to my name. In each aspect of my life, despite falling short of ideal, I strive to reach a certain level of perfection, a certain level of success, and a certain level of excellence. In college and over the course of the next four years, I expect to maintain this type of dedication through classes, internships, jobs, etc. in order to reach my goals. For the first semester of college, I realize that it might take some time for me to adjust to this completely new way of life; however, I hope that the experiences to come will prove to be enriching and unforgettable.
