My name is Eric, and I’m a music/arts and sports fanatic. I love playing instruments, listening to music, dancing, and sketching. Sadly, I’m probably only decent at playing piano. Outside, I love playing sports. While handball and basketball are my main two sports, I really enjoy playing volleyball and baseball as well.
These two hobbies of mine (piano and handball) have really helped me grow as a person. I studied piano and music theory with a professor who helped me get over hardships when I was younger. She steered me away from the pessimistic views that I held towards this world, directing me towards optimism and success. My handball team had broken my isolation from the world. I feared speaking and dealing with people, but through the years I spent with them, I grew to be more vocal and outgoing. I even became a co-captain senior year. I learned to face people with a positive attitude regardless of how I felt about them. I grew to believe that I had to respect everyone regardless of how they acted or how they looked. Everyone has a story behind their life, and I learned to at least attempt to see things through their eyes. Without these experiences through my hobbies, there’s a good chance I would not be the person I am today.
As a college student, I expect myself to take more responsibilities. I’m tired of burdening my parents with the stress that I create for them. I need to show them I’m capable of maintaining my own life, and taking care of my own priorities.
I hope my first semester lays a foundation for me that makes my path through these four years smooth and comfortable. My only concern is that I won’t know what major I want to choose when the time comes. Honestly though, I’m really not that concerned.
