Design Thinking

What is design thinking? Design thinking is a process that revolves around inventing a future. This process is focused on having empathy with users, prototyping, and a tolerance for failure. In my opinion, design thinking can be used in everyday life. As for business, it is a great way to deal with the innovative focus society we live in. The term innovation is on the verge of becoming cliche and a way to deal with this is design thinking.

Innovation and design thinking are parallel to each other. In order to come up with an innovative solution, I believe you have to follow the design thinking process. As it revolves around building for your users by having empathy for them, prototyping to meet their needs, and tolerance for failure.

Design thinking is a process that genuinely connects the user to the designer. Empathy is the key to success in DT as it can be applied to any situation through gaining the perspective of other people you can guarantee that your design will have “impact”. This process is what separates just ideas from true innovation. Ideas will stay as mere ideas if there’s no design thinking process behind them. For instance, if you were to put the smartest and most talented people in a room and tell them to innovate, the results will not be satisfying. For the mere reason that there was no process behind it and the ideas did not empathize with the user. I believe that one of the keys for any idea to succeed is by using the design process as you don’t need to be a designer or specialist to be successful, all you need is to follow the procedures and truly connect with your user by getting in their mind to build empathy. Thus, meeting their needs and ensuring that your design continues to grow, change and succeed.
