The process of generating ideas in creative writing presents many students notable challenges. Some of the strategies students use to overcome the issue of generating writing ideas include listing, looping, nut shelling, clustering, and freewriting. I, in most cases, employ a listing strategy to generate ideas in creative writing. Before embracing this writing strategy, I relied on freewriting. Despite its applicability, freewriting is associated with a significant problem. In many cases, one ends up running short of content while writing. The most interesting writing strategy from Antiltzs Invention Strategy is “Build Ideas through Compound topics.” The latter strategy also aligns with my invention strategy (listing) since it requires an individual to think about a topic and evaluate the connection between various subtopics surrounding the main subject.  Many students are fond of using internet sources while composing their research projects. Poor usage of the internet increases a students chance of getting entangled with plagiarism. I response to high rates of plagiarism among college students, how can a student use secondary sources and internet sources and still avoid plagiarism.

Bad Ideas About Writing-Journal 8

The issue of bad ideas about good writing and critical reading is among the most debated subjects in writing studies. In her essay “the history and social norms people hold towards writing,” Elizabeth Wardle claims that general writing is a false ideology. The author argues that any type of writing requires an individual to define the audience, subject, and purposes of writing. The essay makes it that good writing does not come naturally but requires proper training. Deborah Knotts essay Critical reading towards critical writing supports Wardles thinking with an argument that critical wring forms its foundation on critical reading.  An individual achieves essential reading by looking for ways of thinking from a text.

The issue of critical reading and writing relates to many students since while reading; students do not focus on interacting with a text but concentrate on looking for specific information. The lessons clarify that many students fail to develop good writing skills due to their poor reading strategies.Elizabeths and Deborahs readings are the most productive. The lessons do not sharpen students’ writing skills but also pinpoints significant mistakes students make while reading. The most compelling aspect of the course is the aspect of allowing group work. Irrespective of the latter‘s strengths, it is challenging to compose a two hundred-word response after reading a six-page document. The word limits leave students no choice but to ignore some aspects of the reading. The course should not limit the number of words a student uses to write a prompt

YOU CAN LEARN TO WRITE IN GENERAL

 Elizabeth Wardle

Society & History -Elizabeth Wardle essay the history and social norms people hold towards creative writing or any other writing. The essay refutes the ideology that general writing exists. The essay makes it certain that any form of writing an individual is involved in requires the writers to know their audience, purpose of writing, and the situation.

Audience -The essay targets English learning students majoring in creative writing. Many people cling to the ideology that creative writing is a form of general writing that does not require a writer to learn writing tactics. The author refutes this ideology by claiming that “This is because context, audience, purpose, medium, history, and community values all impact what writing is and needs to be in each situation.”

Speaker-Evidence from the essay proves beyond reasonable doubt that the speaker is an expert in teaching English lessons.

Message- All forms of writing aims at reaching out to a target audience or addressing specific issues. General writing does not exist

Purpose – The primary objective of the essay is to communicate the benefits of learning how to write.

Context-The context reveals instances of moral reasoning and logic in that the author has provided examples in support of her arguments. For instance, she has proven that all forms of writing require planning by urging people to write something out of no context.

How do you use rhetoric in your daily life? What messages do you try to communicate? To what audiences?

Rhetoric is all around us. We always experience new things that influence our thoughts, opinions, and actions. In other words, rhetoric shapes our daily lives. Through our sad, happy, and life-changing experiences, we create rhetoric. Through telling personal stories, I attract other people’s attention in one way or another, in a manner that the audience may relate. In doing so, it is important to analyze the situation at hand to effectively create rhetoric. Communicating to my audience is an important aspect of my life. Through interacting with the people I relate with every day, I try to inform, inspire, encourage, entertain, share good values and others.
