“So much has been done, exclaimed the soul of Frankenstein—more, far more, will I achieve; treading in the steps already marked, I will pioneer a new way, explore unknown powers, and unfold to the world the deepest mysteries of creation.” Victor, Chapter 3
This quote shows the part of Victor thoughts when he was in the process of creating Frankenstein. Little by little he started to become obsessed with wanting to discover the unknown powers and the finding the knowledge nobody has. Victor has the strong desire to keep discovering more without taking in account any consequences he can possibly face. However, I also interpreted this quote in another way. Frankenstein symbolizes many things throughout the story. As Frankenstein represents women, I interpreted this quote as how many women desired to explore the new way of living and “powers” in society but they couldn’t. Many women still tried to find ways to get out in society and fight for their rights.
This video relates to my quote because it connects with the theme about women equality/ feminism. Back in Mary Shelley’s times women were more seem like housewives and their opportunities were very limited. This doesn’t mean women didn’t have dreams to become something bigger in life. Society didn’t see women to have the possibility to take on professional positions. Now this is connected to Frankenstein by the rejection he got from society as he presented himself to people in the different neighborhoods. I liked the video because it clearly explain one of the many symbols Frankenstein represents. It connected to what Mary’s mom believed in women’s rights and how Mary grew up learning about this in her household. The speaker in the video talked about the symbol of representing women which was something I didn’t know about until watching the video. I also found interesting how the author chose to show this type of symbol through a monster which was smart in order to catch the reader’s attention easier instead of giving it away with a female character.
