“Don’t Get Sad, Get Glad” is a website whose main objective is to raise awareness of depression through educating viewers about the risk factors, treatment options, symptoms, and how to help someone who is depressed. Due to the lack of focus on men, children, and elderly who are coping with depression, we decided to focus on these specific groups in our website because we felt that it was necessary to bring more attention to the minority that are often overlooked. Through our website, we hope that we will be able to help those affected by the depression as well as educate more people about the illness.
In order to become more educated about depression, it is important to first know what depression is. According to the American Psychiatric Association depression is defined as:
… a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person’s ability to function at work and at home.
We hope you have fun learning more about depression through this website. If you have any further questions, feel free to leave a comment below and someone will be sure to respond to you as quickly as possible!
