In this section I’m going to be analyzing Linh’s ad. One of the methods she used is ethos/pathos/logos. Linh’s focus is to create opportunities among illiterate people to overcome illiteracy in San Antonio (one of the 5 least literate cities in America). Using logos when talking about the story of a man on overcoming illiteracy, she said “ad featured man’s story, he used to not know how to read till the age of 25, and with the help of Texas Readiness Program, he has a better opportunity now, he is so content with his life right now with the help of the non-profit organization” in other words giving reason why is important for people to get involved in the program to overcome illiteracy. Using ethos when appealing to the Texas Readiness Program. Pathos when deciding to display that man smiling on the ad along with the text “never too late to get started”, it presents a strong emotion and hope. I just identified some of the places where you can tell how she has tried to persuade her audience when using that method. However, there are other methods being used, for example: rhetorical questions context as well as explicit/implicit/extended meaning, etc. The ad is relevant to its audience, persuasive, suitable text and photo.
