Guns at School? If There’s a Will, There are Ways.
Arkansas has state laws prohibiting guns on campus, but that does not stop superintendent David Hopkins from finding a way around the law. Sixteen staff members at the Clarksville High School carry slim, black 9 millimeter handguns every day. Because of his tight budget, Mr. Hopkins has resorted to training and arming his staff members as opposed to hiring security guards in the five schools he is in charge of. In some states, such as Texas, teachers who wish to be armed must have a licence to carry a concealed weapon, pass the mental health exam, and be trained to properly respond to an attack. Though arming teachers is frowned upon, this is a very common practice in schools that do not have sworn officers.
