Blog Post #2

I notice that I am the last one to write a blog post for this class, and I don’t really feel like ending this with Trump. Instead, I would like to talk about democracy in our classroom. Since the theme of this course is “voicing democracy,” our professor tends to get things done “democratically” such as letting us choose the second book that we were going to read. However, none of us participated in that event. One of the reasons might be that some us are quite by nature and the other reason might be that we are not used to a democratic classroom. We are more used to syllabuses, deadlines, exam dates set by authorities. Although we don’t necessary like how things work in the class, but few people try to challenge them. Why?

The very first classroom in the world might simply be composed of the following: someone who wants to learn and someone who wants to teach. However, as people realize the importance of education, a classroom becomes a requirement that is forced on the youths. Some of them might want to learn, but I believe that most of them do not due to the laziness in human nature. If the classroom is truly democratic, most students would vote for the “no-more-class” party on the ballot. Therefore, there need to be some kinds of regulation in a classroom, and the teacher then becomes an authoritative figure who doesn’t necessary need the supports from his/her students. The students then slowly accept the teacher as an authority and follow what they are told.

However, I am thankful that this classroom made it comfortable for us to raise our opinions and to express our thoughts. I remember that we were able to push the due date of the second essay for a few days, and I was proud of that participation of democracy. Thank you all for being in this class. ❤️

Throughout the 2016 presidential election, Trump received a lot of disapproval from the media, citizens of the United States, as well as people overseas. Despite that; however, Trump was elected and he will be president in a month.

What surprises me most about him being elected is that he shows no image of being a good president. Before the campaign, as well as throughout the campaign, Trump constantly made inappropriate comments towards women and racial minorities. Sure, he has the freedom to make any comments he wishes, but as a president, he should learn what should be kept to oneself. If he wants to be accepted by the citizens of the United States, he should put in more effort and make wiser decisions.

In a Huffington Post article titled “Donald Trump Will Be President In Just Over A Month And The Constitution Is Already Under Attack,” the author discusses Trump’s attitude towards the Constitution and the Amendments. Its author, Sam Levine, offers examples of how Trump has disregarded the rights of people given by the Constitution. He brings up Trump’s statement towards Muslims entering the United States, mentioning that Trump’s statement is an attack on the First Amendment and other constitutional protections. The article further makes me believe that Trump is not fit for the position.

What kind of democracy would we be living in if the president ignores the rights of the people and goes even further by trying to take it away. The idea of democracy has changed so drastically and makes me question if it even exists .

Ever since the results of the presidential election, news articles and people all around the country have been constantly talking about America’s future with Donald Trump. Many democrats are still in shock with Trump’s victory and are blatantly throwing dirt on Trump’s name whenever he comes up in conversation. One miracle that many people are hoping for is the chance for Hillary Clinton to be elected president. This can possibly happen if the electoral college ends up voting in favor of Hillary Clinton on the 19th of December.

Currently, there is a change.org online petition that is attempting to get electoral college voters to ignore their states’ votes and vote for Hillary. Hillary won the popular vote by 500,000 votes, yet still lost the election. The petition is using that as one of its main arguments to get the electoral college to vote Hillary into presidency. Overall, the chances of Trump losing his presidency seem very slim and appears to be quite the long shot. I am quite interested to see what Trump will do in the next 4 years to benefit America’s future. Hopefully, his presidency will not be as dreadful as some people expect it to be.
