My recommendation for a piece of media would be Memento. Memento was a movie I watched a year back after finding out that it had a similar story to another one of my childhood favorite movies. In fact that other movie’s (Ghajini) story was directly taken from Memento. That connection really made me curious because I really liked the concept of Ghajini. If I had one word to describe Memento, it would be insane. Like literally insane. Its arguably the best written piece of media I have ever watched, read, listened, allat. Putting aside the actual content of the story, just the way the story is presented and the layout, it had me going crazy. The movie is about a man who’s name is Leonard Shelby, and his mission is to avenge his wife who was brutally raped and killed by two men, one of which he killed and the other who goes by the name of John G. The problem is that during the day his wife was killed, he suffered an injury to the head by one of the killers and developed anterograde amnesia. Because of this he can not make any new memories from that day onwards and he forgets everything after a 15 minute period. As a solution, the main character uses tools like a polaroid camera to take pictures of things and people and labels them. He takes an extreme measure and tattoos his body to ingrain information he deems crucial. The whole movie revolves around his inability to remember things and the way its presented is perfect for the topic. The movie essentially starts backwards and its true beginning is in the middle. The first half of the movie is in reverse, then in the middle the movie moves to the start of the story and then presents the rest of the beginning in the end of the movie. That’s mad confusing to explain but here’s a chart of the sequence of the movie. I feel like presenting the story like this is insane because it ties into depicting the aspect of anterograde amnesia so perfectly. The movie has effects like playing scenes in reverse, static, fading and other things that would recreate a foggy memory. It has some scenes in black white and some scenes in all color. When I realized at the end why this was done I was da losing my mind. As i was watching the movie, I myself felt like I couldn’t remember anything that had happened prior to the scene I was watching. Shit added up perfectly with what the movie was tryna portray. I feel like I liked this movie so much due to the fact that I consider my own memory to be very weak. Obviously not to the extent of the main character’s but I be forgetting stuff I did 5 minutes ago. My mind be freezing ode and it gets me mad frustrated. Researchers who work with anterograde amnesia praised the movie for its crazy accurate portrayal of the disease. Watching this movie will leave you ode confused and searching for answers, and when you think about everything that you just watched and when the realization hits you, you’ll start thinking even more about it. Its just such a beautiful, beautiful movie with how everything connects together so unexpectedly and I urge everyone to watch it.
Recommendation Round Up (YOU)
Mi nah lie me nuh two watch up watch up dem type a show yah but I do recommend that you give YOU on Netflix a watch. It breaks that stereotypical mold and its one of the best shows I have ever watched on Netflix due its peculiar nature. Di spin dat dem put pan how stalker stay. normal di stalker dem seem like dirty dirty evil likkle people wid no sophistication or mannas. The show shows us a guy who is infattuated with many women he meets and how he completely focuses on one woman to the point of him wanting to be the thing in their lives that better them. he even goes as far as killing people who he sees fit just to improve his suspects life. Mi really really love di show due to how smart and tactical the main character haffi get when him get face wit nuff problem. di show revolve round a yute name Joe weh love off was girl and him end up stalk di girl to the point wet him know enough bout her and then him start talk to her and use him info fi den wit her and change up her life. He kills nuisances in the girls life and then puts it upon himself to keep the girls happy and let them keep their focus on him. its not right but you can’t help but cheer him on through the immoral acts he does. As the show goes on we get to see why Joe is like this. I love that we get his back story played piece by piece as we watch the aspects of why Joe acts this way. it gives us a nice incentive to keep watching and furthering our knowledge on Joe. I don’t want to spoil the show as most of my classmates have done but my favorite part in the show was in season 2 where Joe’s girlfriend named Love found out Joe was a killer who would have done anything for her and helped him by getting rid of the girl he had chained up. Even though he didn’t want to kill her Love knew that Joe would go down if this girl escaped. At this point in the show I was mind blown as I thought when Love found out who Joe was she would want to find help from authorities but she a ride or die, which I loved, unironoicaly. Overall I love just how he barely gets himself out of trouble every time he crosses an ethical line. Like God has his back and Is always bailing him out. I also love how his love for books can lead him to come up with crafty plans to achieve his malevolent goals as he narrates his actions and thought meticulously. Mi recommend yuh watch it cah it bad bredda and yuh affiliates go see it plus me know you have Netflix.  YOU LINK
Conan Gray- Yerica Duran Recommendation Post
Conan Gray is one of my favorite artists. There’s so much meaning in all of his songs. He focuses a lot on his life and his experiences as a teenager which is really relatable. In two of his songs called “Generation Why?” and “Crush Culture” he sings about society and how it makes him feel. For instance, in a verse of “Generation Why” he sings, “Cause we are the helpless, selfish, one of a kind. Millennium kids, that all wanna die. Walking in the street with no light inside our eyes. We are the worthless, cursed with too much time. We get into trouble and lose our minds”; it depicts just how society views us. Especially adults, they’ll tell you about you and judge you. So this song focuses on how grown ups are telling us teenagers that our generation is worthless and that we don’t know how to work for what we have. In “Crush Culture” he talks about how he views love “Crush Culture makes me wants to spill my guts out”. Which may not apply to everyone but if you also feel that way it’s a great listen. But the song itself has such a vibe. If you want to try listening to something new, Conan Gray, I’m telling you. His songs are simple yet complex with meaning and that’s something most of us adore. There are so many other great other songs like The Story, Astronomy, Overdrive, People Watching, Comfort Crowd, and Heather. But I can go on about all the meanings to all these songs at a later time. My point is if you love relatable music, are a teenager who looks for comfort in music, or if you simply like indie pop but haven’t heard of Conan Gray. Listen to Conan Gray. At least, in my opinion, I don’t think a lot of artists nowadays make real-life relatable songs so Conan is an essential artist to me. Conan Gray is that artist I listen to when I’m really mad at the world and things aren’t going my way. Sometimes what we look for in music is to listen to someone saying the words you can’t get yourself to say. Listening to a song that resonates with what you’re going through is what we all need sometimes. Knowing that someone else has experienced the same feelings as us can help us feel better, we’re not alone. His music is amazing but he, himself, as an individual he’s so pure and honest. Which is what I love about him. I enjoy his honesty and how he doesn’t ever sugarcoat anything. One thing that he’s made clear to everyone is that he hates labels. Since the media keeps on questioning his sexuality, he once said in a tweet that if you were the type of person who liked labels that there wasn’t an issue with him but if you tried forcing labels on him and others, that was a complete no. He has made so many iconic tweets such as “I know I said lol but I’m actually crying” and “ppl be like “sorry to annoy you” and then proceed to annoy you,” Everything he says is transparent whether it’s in an interview, in a song, or social media. He always keeps it real.
New Girl Recommendation
Link
I recommend the show “new girl” its on Netflix and has about 7 seasons. I remember being hooked on it bc of the funny characters. Tbh my aunt was the one who introduced me to it, at first I was hella hesitant to watch it cus it didn’t seem as good but then the first season showed me how entertaining it is. Its based on this girl named Jessica Day, she’s ode bubbly and quirky and she’s living with her four roommates in downtown LA. Her four roommates are what makes this show mad funny because of their different personalities all clashing in.  The boys names are Winston Schmidt, Nick ,Coach, and Winston Bishop. Since both Winstons have the same first name, everyone calls Schmidt by his last name. Schmidt is hella confident, driven and uptight, he is known to be mad fussy and have OCD. He tries endless of times to get with this Jessicas best friend, Cece, she’s such a pretty model, laid back and is always there for Jessica. Near the end of the show, he finally gets with her which is not surprising because of the endless attempts he did just to be with her. Jessicas love interest/roommate, Nick, is dumb funny and loves being sarcastic. Hes a bartender in Chicago where their crew hangs out at. Winston is a very loyal and kind friend, there was one point in the show where he was doing a puzzle and realized he was colorblind and that made him mad upset. Lastly we have Coach, whose real name is Ernie he got the name coach when he was stepping in as a coach where Winston was playing and took over the team. Ever since that, they all agreed to call him Coach he even dresses as a coach always wearing a whistle around his neck. They all are there for each other going thru mad diff typa experiences from the smallest things to the biggest things. Some of the funniest convos they have would have to be in their bathroom, they are either arguing over something or bothering one of their roommates. Something that is cool about their bathroom is that they don’t have a regular toilet, its bathroom stalls. Jessica is someone who is hella confused most of the time and does stuff that she automatically regrets. She literally is the main character bc this show is based around her and what she does. Her best friend Cece lives in a diff apt complex wit this russian model who is very funny because of hardcore she is. I deff reccomend this show if you enjoy stuff that is light and funny. Theres a mix of everything in this show so I feel like everyone will find something or someone that they like in this show.
Waves Recommendation
My recommendation for this class is the movie “Waves”, an A24 film. I love movies in general, all types. If I could, I would recommend more, but chose to stick with one for now. This movie is a masterpiece, in my opinion. Mad underrated and deserves more recognition. The soundtrack, actors, color palette, and storyline were perfect. The first time I watched it was last summer and become obsessed ever since. I can say I watched this movie over 5 times. This is one of my comfort movies. If I ever feel down, this would be one of the movies I will watch. If you enjoyed the tv show “Euphoria” you will like the movie “waves”. I think it is a perfect movie for young adults because it centers on a lot of issues they may face. Set in South Florida, The movie focuses on a journey of a family who undergoes several issues. It deals with death, domestic abuse, drinking, love, and forgiveness. The first part of the movie follows the son, who is a teen wrestler pushed too hard by his father. This leads to him drinking and becoming violent. In the movie he is dating the character Alexis Lopez who is played by Alexa Demie, she is ode pretty. She also plays in “Euphoria”, a popular tv show. In the beginning, I loved their relationship. They had really cute scenes together, especially at the beach. In the end, their relationship goes downhill, but I won’t tell what happens. The second half follows the daughter and her new relationship, as she deals with her emotions. She is played by actor Emily Williams, who is also mad pretty. I enjoyed watching her relationship grow with her boyfriend because it brought out both of their personality. They both helped each other out with their own issues and weren’t toxic like the son’s relationship. This movie is a rollercoaster that goes from good to bad and just repeats itself. The film color palette was amazing because it fit so well and help create the mood for the scenes. It featured neon colors and the shots were just perfect. My favorite part of the movie is the soundtrack. The first time watching the movie I downloaded the whole soundtrack to my playlist immediately after. Artists like Sza, Frank Ocean, Her, Kendrick Lamar had songs in the movie. I discovered my favorite song by Frank Ocean because of this movie. I never enjoyed a movie soundtrack more than any other movie. Overall I have a lot of favorite movies but this is definitely on my top 3. This movie made me feel many emotions and left me thinking after. There were scenes I wished I had experienced because they were created so well, because of the well acting and settings. I normally don’t like movies that deal with romance and drama, but this movie opened my horizon to different genres. I believe whoever reads this should give the movie a try, or at least watch the trailer.
The Office Recommendation
Alright so this is a pretty popular show that a lot of people have already watched, but Ik that there are some people that still haven’t watched it or continue to hate on it. Usually, the people that hate on it, hate on it just cuz people have created a rivalry between which show is better, Friends or The office. I gotta admit that the first season is pretty bad and is the part where mostly all of the new viewers tend to stop watching. But trust me, once you get past the painfully awkward scenes and the dry humor in the first season… the rest of the show is significantly less painfully awkward and has a little less dry humor. It’s so worth getting through the first season. The show takes place in a small office in Scranton Pennsylvania. There is a camera crew that is making a documentary on Dunder Mifflin, the paper company they work for, that consistently follows them whether they’re working or not. The boss, Micheal Scott, is a very childish, self-centered, and awkwardly funny person that tends to annoy everyone in the office. He’s kind of the main character in the series. He has numerous employees, each with very different personalities, that work together to make sure their clients are satisfied with the paper they receive. The layout of their office is separated by department. We got the sales department, accounting, human resources, reception, and product quality. The show gets a glimpse of every department and every character has a closer bond to each other if they work in the same one. A character that is very loved in the series is Jim. Jim is the chillest and one of the more important characters in this series. We get to see him slowly get with his crush, Pam, the receptionist. Some episodes he would spend the whole day spitting game to her or pranking Dwight Shrute. Dwight is my personal favorite character. This guy takes his job a lil too seriously, acts kinda psychotic, and is constantly trying to impress Michael. He loves having authority over all of his colleagues, even though he has no real authority, he likes to think he does. Since he’s very gullible and naive, Jim tends to pull off a lot of pranks on him every day throughout the series which makes for some of the most hilarious moments. The show has a bunch of more characters that you’ll grow to love. Another underrated character in my humble opinion is Kevin. The big, fat, dumb accountant in the office who only gets work done if food is involved. He is often the laughing stock in the office and has some of the dumbest moments in the whole show. I can go on and on about every single character but it’s better if you just give it a shot yourself and watch it. I promise you, you will grow to love this show and become attached to the characters in it. Sadly, it’s no longer on Netflix, but I’m sure you can find a way to watch it since it’s very popular. Remember, once you get past the first season, you’ll become addicted to the whole thing. Hope you enjoy! 🙂
Elite Recommendation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNwhAdrdwp0http://
My recommendation for the class is a Netflix show called Elite. It is a combination of mystery, drama, and suspense all in one. Each season is a different mystery the characters are trying to solve. The mystery usually consists of a murder by one of the main characters. This show was made by netflix. And the actors are actually from Spain. The show is available in all different types of languages including English, Spanish, “Mexican Spanish,” French, and German. But I suggest watching it in the original Spanish w some subtitles if u don’t speak spanish, because their accents are cool. I think it’s interesting because the name of the show is “Elite” and it’s the same in English and Spanish but there is def a reason on why this is the name. To be more specific, there is a group of teens that are the main characters. They are very rich and go to a private school. So they are basically the “elite.” But the show mostly revolves around the three new working-class students that transferred to this prestigious high school. They are kinda bullied in a way and blamed for some things that they haven’t done so that shows how the rich students are the “Elite” ones. There are 4 seasons and each season is a different murder the main characters are trying to solve. In between trying to figure out the murders, there is drama and some comedy aspects. And actually, before releasing the fourth season, Netflix released mini-stories about some characters because their audience was basically begging for more Elite content. I would say when you watch this you have to set everything else you’re doing to the side because if you miss one detail u might get confused. There is a lot of symbolism and specific scenes you should pay attention to if you want to understand and find out who the killer is before the show actually reveals it to you. I would say elite is a binge-watch-worthy typa show. The first time I watched it I thought it was so boring and I could barely finish the first episode which I find kinda funny now. Because now after finishing it, it literally wasn’t boring at all. Each season new characters come + some go so there is always a new story to be told whether it be about the murder, or the character’s backstory, or love trope. It is a good show but not very appropriate or w.e… So I dont rlly recommend watching with your parents or smth or else they might ask “porque estás viendo esas pendejadas??” lmao. But if you like money heist you might like this show because it’s kinda the same vibe. Or if you have ever seen “baby” which is an Italian drama you also might like Elite bc they are very similar. I put this show on to my friend and she finished the first season in a day so I think that’s some proof too. Anyway if you are looking for a new binge-worthy show, you should try this one out and see if u like it.
Rocket League Recommendation
My recommendation is in the gaming field, although my game time has significantly decreased due to the start of college and what comes with college. Regardless after completing most of my work I reward some time with some games. The game that I play a lot is a free to play game called “Rocket League”. It can be found on Playstation, Xbox and PC. It came out in 2015 and it’s still popular today, playing this throughout Middle and High-School was very fun throughout my life. the objective of the game is to play car soccer or other given game modes within the game to win and get high ranks. Each game is 5 minutes long and if the game is tied at the end of the timer it goes into overtime where then it is golden goal, the first team who scores wins the game. The ranked scene is very popular and competitive within the community. The community in the game is also something that is very important and it relates to this recommendation I am making, they have their own language and terminology with the game to better understand each other to win the game. Some simple terms would be a 3 stack where a group of 3 players will all play together in a pre made squad. Within the community, one of the most infamous terms would be “What a Save!”. This is a very toxic term because it will raise tension to the other team and mess up with their mentality and make more mistakes. It is used when scoring making it seem like the goal scored by the messengers was an easy goal and is being very sarcastic with the statement. As well as the game being about car soccer, I really enjoy it because I do really like soccer ever since a young age. It combines really well because I am able to merge my soccer language with my rocket league language. Other than soccer there are many other modes to play casually and have fun. The skill level in this game is very high so an above average player will not have a good change when playing against someone on the higher ranks of the game. This game involves patience and a lot of practice if someone tries to get better learning many different tactics and plays they can make on the field. Very similar to being a College Student, putting in the time in the right places will benefit compared to just being at lectures and writing unorganized notes that will not help you. Overall I really have fun playing this game during my free time either solo or with friends which do make the game way more fun. Sometimes there will be impulsive language but its all part of the game and it will be irrelevant after the game because you will already be in the next because of the fast queue times. Staying focused in this game is very beneficial just like staying focused in school.
Drive to Survive Recommendation
My recommendation for the class would be Formula 1: Drive to Survive on Netflix. you probably don’t know about the sport but you probably have heard about Nascar, but it’s the pinnacle of motorsports. It’s a competition where 20 drivers compete for the race win crossing the finish line first. Its a global sport where races are hosted in 21 countries across 5 continetns. There are 10 teams on the grid. Mercedes, Redbull, Ferrari, Racing Point, Renault, Alpha Tauri, Alfa Romeo, Mclaren, Williams, and Haas which is actually an American team. Formula 1 is also known as f1. It is the most popular auto racing sport in the world and is the highest level of single-seat car racing. F1 is contested in varying numbers of racing throughout a calendar year, and each race is known as a Grand Prix drivers will drive a specially designed racecar that is designed to go around a track in as fast a time as possible. there are three parts to any race. A Formula 1 Grand Prix takes place over the course of a one-weekend free practice session and qualifying and the race events are as follows. There are 3 free practice sessions, 2 are held early on a Friday FP2 is later on Friday. Practice is where drivers can test their cars on the racetrack. This is important how the car will run given the weather and environment and also get the driver used to the track. Saturday Host two seasons FP3 and qualifying. For qualifying to determine what position each driver starts in the race, each driver will complete laps of the track on their own. The fastest driver will start the race on the grid in the 1st position, the 2nd fastest in the 2nd position, 3rd fastest in the 3rd position until all drivers have an assigned position. and Sunday the Grand Prix race. once qualifying has determined the order where drivers start, the actual race is ussually held on a Sunday. Drivers will do one warm-up lap and then line up in the position that they will start as determined by qualifying once all 5 lights go out, the race begins drivers have to complete a predetermined number of laps, for the total race distance of about 305 km. Whoever crosses the line first after all laps have been completed wins the race. Drivers receive points 25 for the first, 18 for the second 15 for the third, then 12,10,8,6,4,2, and 1 for 10th place. For the driver with the most point at the end of the season wins the world championship. in the last decade, only two teams won the constructor’s championship and just three different drivers won a driver’s championship Red bull was Sebastian Vettel dominating from 2010-2013 with their design until the regulation change in 2014-2020 time and Mercedes unleashed their powerhouse power unit in overall unstoppable design with Lewis Hamilton shining for the rest of the decade only interrupted by his 2016 teammate Nico Rosberg. This season the 2021 season is an exciting battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen that could last until the season final in Abu Dhabi. Next season 2022 there will be a new car introduced so it an great opportunity for new eyes to the sport because there will be 23 races and one of them will be held in Miami, Florida. There are three seasons of DTS so there is enough to watch. Season 1 is based on the 2018 season. season 2, 2019 season 3 2020 season. Hope you guys enjoy!
Squid Games Recommendation
Above is the link to the trailer of the Netflix show, Squid Games. I love this show so much and you know I do when I watched the whole season in one night, and also had class the next morning. It is so so good! I recommend this show because it is just so different and so addicting to watch. In the show, there are 5 main characters, Gi Hun, Sang Woo, Il-nam, Sae- Byeok, and Ali. and they all live a life in debt, for their own very reasons. They are asked to participate in a game and given a business card with the phone number to call when they are ready to play in it. Since they don’t have money, they are feening for any chance to get money. In this game, they are taken to a island away from the city where no body can find them. There are 456 players in this game and every player has a number on their tracksuit that is used to identify them. In the game, they do not use their real names rather “Player Number ___”. The instructors at the game site do not show their faces either, very mysterious, they have masks and uniforms on so even the players don’t know who is in charge of the whole game. All the players are brought here because they all are in debt and need money. The instructors of the game give them the instructions that there are 6 games in total and the ones who cannot complete the game under a timer will be eliminated. Nah, the word eliminated was not just that they sit out until the next game or they go back home. They get shot by a gun and die. So, really there will only be a few winners at the end of the 6 games out of all the 456 players. The 6 games were childhood games in Korea and through the games, the most efficient, and the most intelligent players stay for longer. At the last two games, a group of VIPs arrive at the island and look very rich. These people are dressed up in suits and ties, and of course are treated like they something. They also had masks on and did not reveal their real self. These VIPs have been investing and betting money on the player of their choice and watches the games on a big screen TV as entertainment. As players get shot and die, the VIPs bet more money on another player and it just continues. This show revolves around survival and money. It is a very interesting but scary way to view it. I enjoyed it so much because after each episode, there is so much suspense and makes me wanna watch more. Since it’s a survival, life or death game within the show, it is very satisfying to move onto the next game and finally come to the last episode. And no I don’t think killing people is good to watch or funny, so I do have to warn you that there are a lot of shooting, and blood in the episodes. But like if you watch it you will understand what the hype is all about. Just watch the trailer first and I promise you that you will wanna watch it!
