Hey everyone! My name is Garelys. However, mostly all my family and friends call me “Lela”. So if my name seems pretty hard to pronounce feel free just to say Lela. My pronouns are she/her. I was born in The Bronx and attended catholic school for most of my life including high school. I always knew Baruch was going to be the school I was going to end up attending. For some reason ever since I heard about it and did my research on it my sophomore year of high school, I felt that it was perfect for me. Especially because of the outstanding business program it has to offer. Which is what I plan to major in; specifically, finance. A very important element of my life is my family and my culture. I am a very proud daughter of immigrants. My parents came to this country with nothing but a dream and gave me everything. I am Dominican on behalf of both my parents. I have three older brothers which truly makes me the “baby” of the family. I am a foodie, I love trying different kinds of foods from different cultures and learning about them. Being Dominican my favorite dish of all time is “locrio de longaniza”. If I had to choose a meal to eat for the rest of my life that would be it. I 10/10 recommend. My favorite hobbies include traveling and reading. I love traveling because it opens your eyes and expands your horizons to different cultures, music, food, and overall experiences. My favorite country I’ve visited has to be Italy. Outside of the motherland (Dominican Republic) because DR is just home to me. I love reading books especially books that can convey a message about life and just how we should go about it to truly be happy. My favorite book being “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz. At a young age I developed a strong passion for beauty wether that be skincare or makeup. I love making others feel better about themselves and truly come to love who they are as an individual. By next year, I hope to become a licensed esthetician. So I can be more closely involved in the beauty industry while I’m pursing my degree in college. The picture I was going to put up is a picture of a beach in Dominican Republic. Specifically, “Isla Saona”. For some reason my laptop isn’t letting me upload the file. However, I was going to put that picture up because it truly is where I am at my happiest. I love being by the water. I find the beach to be peaceful and tranquil, I place I can relax and at the same time have fun. A place where I take all the beautiful views in, hear the waves crashing, listen to my favorite music, read a book, and most importantly tan! So yeah, this is me! I hope I get the chance to get to know all of you individually throughout the course of the semester!

Hi, my name is Jacqueline and you can call me Jackie if you’d like. I chose to study at Baruch since I’m planning to major in finance which, as many of you have heard, Baruch is a great school for that.
I’m on the women’s tennis team and I’ve been playing tennis for about 2 years now, but it’s something I find fun and calming (when I’m not playing matches). The only reason why I started playing tennis was for the cute tennis skirts but I actually ended up liking the sport. I have 2 cats at home, my older cat’s name is Vaski and her son’s name is Oreo. Vaski was a stray cat, but I insisted my family to take her in since we’ve been setting out a plate of food for her for about 5 months straight. When we took her in we saw that her belly was a little bigger than usual and it turns out she was pregnant with 3 kittens. I had to become a veterinarian for a day and help her during labor. They all turned out to be healthy and I kept just one, because having 3 little kittens hiding and running around my home was a little stressful. Something about me is that I love being in the city, I love the ambiance and how many stores there are to get food or even shop at. Of course when I’m walking around the city I need to be listening to music. My favorite artists right now are Brent Faiyaz, Future, and Playboi Carti. So far I saw Brent in person 2 times already and hopefully I’ll see Carti in January.
A recap of my summer has been going out to eat, some concerts, working at a summer camp, and just spending time with my boyfriend. Below I chose this photo since Brent has been one of my favorite artists for many years. Knowing every word to every song and just hearing him perform live completed me. It felt amazing being able to sing my heart out to every song I’ve been listening through my Airpods, and in that moment I felt sort of emotional. Feel free to reach out to meee

Hi everyone, my name is Ezra Kababieh and I’m from Brooklyn. My pronouns are He/Him and I don’t have any cool nickname so Ezra will do. I love to workout, play sports, eat, hang out with friends and family and eat some more. One of the things I live by is to always improve on oneselves in any area of life. One area that I focus on is self health which is why I take fitness so seriously by working out daily. Another aspect of improvement that I focus on is religion, always trying to learn more about my religion which is Judaism and becoming a better person with God’s help and guidance. Going back to my love of eating, my favorite food is chicken and I can debate you on how it is superior to any other food. I can even start right now but I will save you the time and just tell you to see my opinion as the truth.
The picture I chose to represent me is a selfie with me, my two younger brothers and my three best friends all playing basketball in my backyard. I think this picture encapsulates so many elements of my personality. For one is my love of sports, not only the playing of the sport itself but the moments and memories these activities create with others. Second is the people in the photo, not only my actual brothers but my best friends. For me family is something that I put before anything else in this world. Before riches, fame and even before happiness. I will always take time out of my day to spend with my brothers, blood or not. My definition of a brother is a real and true friend, so if you can do that I consider you a brother. Everyone reading the blog can come test it out!!! Last but not least on why I chose this photo is what we did after, went out to eat. Although this picture and this day are so simple it is my favorite memory of 2023.
INTRODUCTORY POST
Yoo, my name is Shemar, aka Mar, aka Mr 411, aka 411Mar. I’m 18 and a Brooklyn native, I attended school at South Shore High School in Canarsie. About 10 months ago I discovered my new profound passion for creating art through conceptual photography, it’s a pretty cool story on how I got started.
Throughout 2022, I went viral multiple times on TikTok due to some of the pictures I would post and the videos I would make, a consistent comment throughout all my videos was “What camera do you use?” and I replied with “I don’t have one, all photos taken on my phone.” Then one day before school, I posted a video with the caption, “More and more and more. I have so many project ideas, I just need the camera.” A couple of hours later someone commented, “Selling mine with lenses!” Crazy right? “The golden offer” is what I called it at the time, this comment changed everything.
Since then, I’ve gone on to make 7 different conceptual projects for the year primarily based on black culture, and I have 5 left to complete my goal of 12 projects in 12 months. I’ve done multiple different private shoots, I became that “camera guy” at my high school, and I had my art displayed on gallery walks in museums and studios. And I’m only getting started.
The end goal, is to take my creativity to another level, maybe direct a movie one day. Either way don’t forget the numbers 411.
With that being said, y’all should check out my work on Instagram @411Marr, If you ever need pictures taken, don’t ever hesitate to hit me up, bookings at https://411mar.com. If you ever want to talk to me about anything I mentioned or want to be a part of the 411 project, feel free to come up and talk to me. Below, I’m going to include a picture from one of my projects.

Hey, I’m Rich. I’m working towards an accounting degree at Baruch. I’m from Brooklyn but loving the Manhattan atmosphere. Overall I enjoy playing any sport and usually meet a lot of cool new people that way. I’d say I’m open minded and not afraid of trying new things. In my free time I’m usually listening to music, watching movies, or doing photography. People have always told me I was a calm person, bringing them down to earth or generally helping them stay grounded. I have an optimistic mindset and love finding new ways to improve.

Hello! My name is Kaitlyn Brianna Lapomarel, but of course you can just call me Kaitlyn. A nickname I often tend to use Kaity, so feel free to call me whichever name works for you! Both names work just fine for me! My pronouns are She/Her. I grew up in the Bronx for all my life, my earlier years being spent in Cambridge Avenue and later on I moved to Castle Hill. My father is Haitian, he was born in the capital of Haiti; Port-au-Prince. My mother on the other hand is a mix of Ecuadorian and Dominican, and she was born right here in this amazing city. I absolutely love living in New York City. Like most of the rest of you, I am a freshman at Baruch College and I am extremely excited to be attending this wonderful college as an accounting major. This college was actually my first pick for schools, so as soon as I saw my acceptance notice I was ecstatic! Baruch is actually the largest school I have ever attended, as all my life I have attended smaller private Catholic schools! I am still 17 years old as of writing this post, I have a late birthday on September 13th. My birthday makes my zodiac sign a Virgo if anyone is interested in horoscopes! My favorite color is pink, all different shades and versions! I really like spicy foods, I also like a lot of sweet drinks. I am not a coffee drinker, I prefer tea. My hobbies include playing various video games. A few of my favorite mobile games are currently Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, Ensemble Stars, Project Sekai, Twisted Wonderland and many more! I also am an avid anime watcher and manga reader, and I think to date I have read over 500 different manga! I also love creative writing and creating my own worlds and characters. English has always been my favorite subject in school, with math coming in as a close second! I am hoping my journey as a Bearcat takes me far into the world of accounting, as I am seeking to take the CPA exam (Certificated Public Accountant) at the end of this journey. I hope to learn a lot from all the amazing professors here in Baruch, and I am just so excited to be here with you all! Here I’ve included a picture of myself, which is a selfie that I took with my dog, Franklin.

Hi, my name is Angelina, and I am an accounting major at Baruch. Everyone calls me Angie, but I do not mind being called either/or. I am from a neighborhood called Washington Heights in Uptown Manhattan and I have grown up here all my life. All my life I went to catholic school, and they were all very small schools, now I am at Baruch and the size and amount of people is a little overwhelming at the moment. My hobbies are doing my makeup and taking pictures. Someday, I wish to be a content creator, whether on TikTok, Instagram or YouTube. Now that I think about it, I could start my journey through Blogs @ Baruch! At the moment I work at a pharmacy and although I am not officially a licensed tech, I know mostly everything I need to know to be one. One of the cool things about working at a pharmacy is that there is always something new to learn. Whether that is about a new medication that has come out or a new insurance policy. Even though working at a pharmacy is not in my field of study it has taught me a lot about dealing with others. Sometimes patients can come in and not be so nice and then the next day come back and be the sweetest person known to earth. Experiences like that have taught me to be kind and patient with people because we never know what they could be going through and dealing with one’s health is a serious matter. I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you guys! We’re all new here and all learning so don’t hesitate to ask me questions or talk to me we can figure it out together! Nice meeting you!

Hi my name is Kadijah and I am a Finance major here at Baruch. I was born and raised in The Bronx. My parents were born in Gambia which is in west Africa. I am the oldest of four siblings. Growing up in The Bronx has taught me so much. I’ve grown learned how to stand my ground and keep my guard up. In a world where everyone is just trying to meet their goals you have to understand how to put yourself first. Staying away from anything that might get in the way of your success is key. I’ve always loved math since I was a little girl. Math has to do with a lot of critical thinking and trying out different methods on accessing data. I own a small business called “Allure N Galoure” where I provide henna services for events, holidays, or for people who just want to get it done. I promote my work through instagram and TikTok. My henna business has changed the way I view my future. I’ve been introduced to the world of business and I love the idea of satisfying a clients need. Everyday I’m looking for new techniques on how to improve my business and expand my clientele. Being apart of peoples lives is something I plan to do long-term. Whether it’s providing financial help of creating generational wealth, I plan to always stick to be a supportive system to those who come to me and helped them build the life they want.
I chose this image of my business logo because it is my blueprint. I plan to build upon my business and use it to my advantage. In the next few years I hope to grow something more than what I already have. My future is in the hands of this business and my impact on the community will be based of “Allure N Galoure”.
“Learning to Read” excerpt
In the excerpt “Learning to Read” from “The Autobiography of Malcolm X “, I came to discover Malcolm X’s journey of reading and understanding. His overall curiosity and willingness to learn starting with a fundamental tool such as a dictionary and studying it in order for him to become knowledgeable of words and their different meanings is truly what made a strong impression on me. Malcolm didn’t let his circumstances nor surroundings in prison define him. Instead, he took advantage of it spending his sole time studying the dictionary and improving his writing skills by copying everything he was seeing down. Ultimately, that guided him to expand his knowledge on topics that he once was incapable of comprehending . Malcolm X is known to be a highly intelligent individual. I always figured he had some sort of high education. However, it surprised me how he didn’t even make it past middle school. I am truly fascinated that Malcolm didn’t receive a full proper school education. All that he knows was self-taught, referring to “a homemade education”. What I can make of the authors description of “a homemade education” is that it’s one that you create for yourself. One that caters to you as an individual and your needs based on what we know, don’t know, and want to know. It’s a kind of education that you solely curate and teach yourself on your own terms. Based on self – determination, passion, and drive. The element I can identify within this narrative is that when I put my mind toward a certain goal or objective I don’t give up no matter how hard it gets or if it may seem impossible. I feel like Malcolm had the same mentality. He was eager to learn how to become literate and gain knowledge even if it was going to be long journey. He ended up achieving that and so much more as time passed.
Hey I’m Isabel, you can call me Izzy or Isabel doesn’t matter. I’m a Marketing Major, I want to mainly focus on the digital aspect of it because I want to get into the social media area of marketing. I’m from The Bronx, specifically Soundview. I was born and raised here and I’ve lived in The Bronx my whole life. I love Manhattan, even though it can be extremely overcrowded and dirty, it’s just something about the city that makes me really love it. The Tall buildings, the parks, restaurants, and the stores are my big reasons. Eventually I will move out of here, maybe after I get my degree. Wherever life takes me. I love taking pictures, either of myself or of views that I consider beautiful in my eyes; Instagram Plug: @whoisisabelmarie & Picture Page @lifeinisabelseyes. I love YouTube, my favorite youtubers are Kai Cenat, Coryxkenshin, Agent 00, Fanum, Berleezy, Dashie and probably more I can’t think of right now. Overall, I’m excited for the first semester and I can’t wait to meet more people.
I picked this photo because I’m the oldest daughter in my family and I love my sisters, they pushed me to become more and work hard. This was my graduation cap because of my motivation also known as my sisters.
