I saw the Fred Rogers memorial on a elementary school trip to Pennsylvania. At the time I didn’t know much about the guy everyone called Mr. Rogers but the memorial was memorable. I think what made it most memorable was the location. It was located on a waterfront overlooking a body of water and a bridge which made it very peaceful. I remember sitting with my peers on the steps and eating our snacks as we just enjoyed our time there and spoke to each other.
Now that i’m older and have seen Mister Rogers neighborhood, the tv show, the statue and its location make complete sense. He was showing children around the world kindness and to appreciate the world around them. Looking back to my friends and I eating and talking was like a symbol to his work and how it impacted others. I think what made the memorial successful is that it’s located in a place where people enjoy their summer days and have boats parked in the water that the statue overviews. Since the statue is not really the focus of attention but instead just a part of what is already there it represents what Mister Rogers stood for in his tv show.
