Tijs Michiel Verwest, known professionally as Tiësto, is a Dutch DJ and music producer from Breda. He was voted “the Greatest DJ of All Time” by Mix magazine in a 2010/2011 poll amongst fans. In 2013, he was voted by DJ Mag readers as the “best DJ of the last 20 years. He actually composed the song known as “Red Lights” which in many parts symbolizes obstacles or fear. This song can be interpreted in many ways but for me when I listen to it, revolves around the idea of over coming or not acknowledging judgement around them. This correlates with the red light as the title stated as it represents having to stop whatever you are doing. Which we see most of us coming to a complete hold when we are faced with uncomfortable situations or trying to do something but having the sense of being judged due any particular reason.
Through out the song there are such lines that represent the idea of not staying in one place and too keep going such as “There ain’t no reason to stay, We’ll be light years away, We could just run them red lights” although one can see this line as very generalized as a means to see it as just a person driving. From this one line one can see the meaning of just going through and not staying in one place. Especially with passing through a red light when one knows that those things are necessarily not allowed. Which would also show the view of doing things outside of your comfort zone as it is better to it now than later when the opportunity leaves.
At the very begging there is also a line that strongly represents todays society as we let past experiences affect new ones due to having guilt “So let’s break right out of these guilty cages,We’re going to make it now,Don’t ever turn around” This line right here from my interpretation is meant to show how one has to break from a certain negative mind set and just go and try new things all while forgetting the past as it is in the past now to only look at the present. This line with the title red light and its meaning shows the symbolism that is trying to say using the red light as a means to show an uncomfortable or foreign situation or just as read the mindset that holsters you to one position never allowing you to try new things. The saying to pass the red light means to overtake what is holstering you down and stopping you from ever living in the present.
