“If you form the habit of taking what someone else says about a thing without checking it out for yourself, you”ll find that other people will have you hating your friends and loving your enemies.” – Malcolm X
The quote presented above was said by Malcolm X, an individual that had a huge impact on the civil rights movement because he advocated for the rights of African Americans. He was completely different from Martin Luther King because he viewed the world with hatred because of the way he was treated. Malcolm X was known for using violence to obtain rights and that being peaceful wouldn’t lead to complete freedom. I chose this quote because a lot of people go by the opinions of others and that can affect them later on. Also the quote is speaking to the truth that some people will have you believing anything.
The quote means that be very cautious on who you believe when presented things because they may seem trusting, but don’t have the best intentions. Always look into things for yourself because at the end of the day there are people out there that enjoy leading others to failure. This quote relates to the concept of fact-checking everything before speaking it to others before you make yourself look like a fool. Personally the quote reminds me to think for myself and form my own opinions/views about things and to not believe everything I hear.
I agree with your take on this quote since we’re currently living in the age of information. With everything being readily available on our phones there’s no reason not to fact-check and remain ignorant. I also believe that being too trustworthy could also bring upon your downfall since you never know someone’s true intentions.
I agree highly with your take on this quote from Malcolm X. All of us as people have the pessimistic tendency of judging others based on what is heard and said. It is wrong to judge a person based on what is said about them if you have never met them for yourself.
I think you explained the meaning of the quote really well. I agree with you on being cautious about what and who you believe because in the world today, information are so easily spread whether it may be true or not. I think that your statement at the end is true and can relate to everyone.
