“If you form the habit of taking what someone else says about a thing without checking it out for yourself, you”ll find that other people will have you hating your friends and loving your enemies.” Stated by the man named Malcom X an iconic human activist figure. Malcom X was quite the figure when present he was a bold and a very much predominant figure for the civil rights movement. Although his ways were very much conflicting as he wanted to support his fellow African Americans by any mean necessary but also honor Martin. Luther Kings ways of non-violence. Malcom X was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 1946 for the crimes of larceny and breaking and entering. All while he was in prison he would soon start to adjust to islamic views and join the nation of islam. This enlightenment of sunni Islam would be the start of a new Malcom X an activist leader and a changed man.
The reason that I chose this quote is we see how many people now just believe what they see or hear such as mainstream news or mainstream anything really. We never really go out of our way to see the other side. I don’t know if it may be because we are a very stubborn and arrogant in this new generation as we think where young and our new ideas are always right and should be encouraged to societal norms. Which I would say is really arrogant and ignorant to even say or think. This quote is actually a very critical quote with people today as we see us as human being we are always being influenced by our peers and society. If our friends say someone is bad we sometimes end up feeling the same way even though we have never met them in our life. In which the section of Malcom X’s quote “you”ll find that other people will have you hating your friends and loving your enemies.” really conveys a life lesson that should be learned to all of people so that we may never let other peoples opinions/influence affect our beliefs and views of people and the world. This is why I chose this quote as it is a very critical quote in todays society and it encourages people to be more open minded and not ignorant and arrogant generation that we are!
