Hi Everyone,

Tomorrow’s class (Thursday 4/27) will take place in the English Department’s Computer Lab, VC 7-205.  It will be a working session designed to get you started on your research for your final projects.  We will also be choosing numbers to determine the order of presentations!  Don’t forget to comment on your original blog post before tomorrow’s class.  You should let me know what topic you’ve settled on and what your research question is.

See you tomorrow!!

ICE Police Raids

Due to new immigration laws, ICE police officers have been desperately trying to arrest illegal immigrants. The problem with their tactics is that they are violating laws by entering into the homes of immigrants without a search warrant. They have been lying to people in order to let them into their houses. This has led to the arrest of immigrants that are just working to better the condition of their family. Instead of trying to to catch criminals, they are out to get regular families. This situation has created fear within the immigrant community. A lot of families are now scared to get out of their homes. Many do not send their children to school. They know they are targeted, so a lie regarding their deportation is easily believable. ICE police have been using this to their advantage. They continue to arrest people and separate families. A lot of immigrant families now face deportation. They do not know what to do since a lot of them have children who were born in the United States. Many do not have the resources in their home countries that they need in order to support their children. On top of that, they do not know who to leave their children with once they are deported. These searches are a violation to the Fourth Amendment,  but it seems that they have been using these tactics for a very long time and have gotten away with it.

Displacement in Syria

As everybody knows, Syrian citizens are going through a rough time.  Since March 15, 2011 Syria has been fighting a civil war; it began from a peaceful protest. The Syrian government repressed these protest aggressively and the citizens counterattacked. Violence in Syria has escalated ever since and has cost many innocent lives. The displacement that takes place here, is that millions of Syrians have evacuated their homes in the hope of finding a safe place to live. It is also estimated that “five million Syrians have had to leave the country”, this according to the United Nations. Additionally, six million more people have moved in search for a safer place inside Syria. That is about eleven million Syrians who have had to leave their towns and everything that’s familiar to them in order to remain alive. They must adapt to their new lives, where they must to start from scratch. Many have lost family members and find it challenging to move on without them. These people were forced to migrate to foreign lands in order to survive.

Displacement

http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_58ff6e9ee4b047ce3ee27c57

Under Donald Trump’s administration it continues to attacks on immigrant and refugee families. Raids on immigrant families are escalating. Mothers who have been here in the u.s for over a decade have been sent away from their children. Immigrants with legal status have been unlawfully detained.
Also due to many changes following his administration it is becoming harder to pay for doctors when we are sick and to get healthcare for the poor and those unable to receive treatment. The displacement was that before Donald trump’s administrations not all the time is there police trying to hunt down the illegal or legal immigrants is but now you can see on news that immigrants were being sent away one after another . I heard about families being torn apart and forced to leave the u.s even after they have settle in the place for years. With his new policy many will be left with no healthcare especially to the poor. This will affect thousands of people with no way to go to the doctor or hospital for treatment. This will also cause fear and tension among the immigrants because they are afraid of being sent back to where they came from. People come to the United States for opportunity and jobs as well as freedom. Many of these immigrants came here for a living but now they were being of forced to leave this place, the place where they decides to spent their life with their family.
