My remix will consist of two things. I will have pictures on Anti- Asian hate and in the middle there is going to be the word UNITED. The second thing will be a world art. It is a shape of a globe and will consist of words in the globe involving the coronavirus and Asian communities. I decided to do a globe since the coronavirus all around the world and everyone is being affected by this.

I decided to choose this picture because it is a nice feeling to be able to wake up early in the morning and see the sun rising. I feel like during these difficult times it’s worth paying attention to the things that are around us and see how wonderful it is. It makes me look forward into the future when all of this is over and to be able to walk around knowing that there isn’t any virus going around. To be able to go to the park and spend my day playing volleyball with my family and friends. There is a lot of negative things happening in the world so its best that we don’t pay all of our attention to the negative and to look at positive as much as we can. It can gives us a sense of hope and happiness.

The president tweeted that the New York governor  “should spend more time doing and less time complaining.”

Trump brought the Army Corps of Engineers to build the 2500 additional bed for coronavirus patients in Javits Center. Trump has stated that “none of them have been used” when in reality 800 beds has been used so far. Trump also said that there was no need in making these beds and that it was a request form the state which was not valid. However, Governor Cuomo states well if it wasn’t valid then the federal government would not have helped in making the beds. The reason why they made extra beds is because there was a projection stating that there was going to be a higher amount of people affected by the virus but it was wrong which these projections came from the PRESIDENT himself. So for Trump saying that Cuomo is wrong when the only thing he did was evaluating Trump’s projection shows how Cuomo was foolish to believe in Trump’s projection. Meaning that the White House is unreliable and anyone who follows them are foolish. Trump has stated that he does not want to help on testing 11 times which is something that every state needs help on. He doesn’t want to help because he says that it is too complicated and hard to do which is his job to do as president. Stating that he has done enough to help but Cuomo says that no one has done enough because it is not over. There is still a lot to do in order to stop the virus so Trump can’t just want a thank you from everyone he has helped and think that he is finished and that he has done his part. Cuomo continues on saying what if every governor were to simply say that they are finished and that they did their part then the world would be in chaos. Cuomo criticized the lack of knowledge that Trump has on the constitution because he has said before that he is deciding when to open states and then changes his story saying that it is up to the governors to decide that. The truth to the story is that it was always up to the governors to decide when to open again and not Trump. Another thing that came up is that CDC projection (Trump’s Projection) stated that 2.4 million people would have been affected by the coronavirus. Which was almost 2 times the capacity of hospitals which are 900,000 in the US. Trump saying we are prepared and that they have a stock pile of ventilators which are 10,000 is foolish. If those projections were right and that it was twice the capacity that hospitals hold then nation would be in chaos. Only having 10,000 ventilators for the nation for 2.4 million that were supposed to be infected. Only caring more about businesses and not about funding for testing and finding a way to end the virus.

The Help by Tate Taylor

Taking place in the 1960’s in Mississippi where segregation is going on during this time. Viewers get to see the lives of a black maids named Aibileen, Minny and other maids. The struggles that they go through on a daily basis such as racism, poverty, domestic violence, etc. It shows how women of color had a harder time because not only do they face discrimation due to their color of skin but also for being a woman. We see how society treats the people of color and how unfair it was for them. How whites tell themselves “separate but equal” in order to justify their actions and feel better. Blacks running to their homes scared because the news reported a “nigger got shot” after Martin Luther King’s speech. Fearing for their safety and for their children, knowing there is no one protecting them. Parents who are black unable to afford tuition for their children, preventing them from being able to get a good career and escape their economic situation. Children leaving school to work and support the family because the bills are too much for the parents to afford. Whites hiring maids who are not allowed to use the bathroom inside the house but instead use the one that is in the backyard. Being called a negro or nigger instead of using their names. Their hard work not being recognized and being taken for granted. Maids knowing that they can be fired at anytime and are treated as less. Black people are unable to retaliate because the government favors white people instead of blacks. Knowing that white people are able to send them to jail if they wanted to. Afraid to tell their story to the world because of the consequences it would have and believing that their situation will never get better. As a result they stay quiet and mind their business allowing their situation to continue instead of stopping it.

The videos that I have watched were Superman, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Seeing the three clips, they all show displacement in different ways and are willing to be part of society. In the Superman video, it is about a man who came from another planet called Krypton where he has superpowers unlike anyone else has seen before. Knowing he has these powers he decides to use them for good and save lives. This is where displacement is involved, Superman is unique, there is no one else like him and citizens seem to look up to him as if he is a god. Usually  anyone who is different from others tends to be ignored by society but because superman has superpowers and can do many cool things people love him. In order for Superman to blend in and be seen as a normal human being he has to be in disguise. Going as Clark Kent who works as a reporter. The netflix show called Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is about “mole” women who were kidnapped and kept underground away from society. Kimmy Schmidt who was kidnapped at a young age and when she was freed she still had the mentality of a young girl. Being a “mole” women society would sympathize her for her unfortunate event and would not see her as a person but as a victim. Kimmy refuses to be seen as a victim but to be seen as a regular person. However, even when she tries to be normal and talk to people, people look at her confused. The reason why is because of her mentality of a young girl due to her being unable to develop and act her age due to being stuck underground for several years. Another example of displacement is Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Will Smith who cracks jokes all the time and uses humor every chance he gets just shows how different he is from the rest of his family. Such as his uncle Phil and aunt Vivian who are wealthy and act sophisticated. Will Smith comes from a difficult neighborhood and her mom decided to send Will to his uncle where he can get a better life. Will acts, dresses and talks differently compared to his uncle and doesn’t fit in. All these three videos show displacement and how the person is different from their surroundings.

“The Chinese virus, it’s not racist at all. It comes from China,” said Trump. The corona virus also known as COVID-19  is a virus that has been very problematic and has spread across countries. Many people have died due to this virus and more deaths will continue. People are suppose to come together and support one another during this crisis and those in higher power should reinforce the importance of supporting one another instead of  putting blame. Trump who is the president of the United States continues putting blame on China for the outbreak. As if ethnicity has to do something with the virus. As a result more people believe that these allegations are true. Which causes people to also believe that it is okay to call slurs to Chinese people and their community since it was their “fault” for the outbreak. Imagine being blamed for a virus that has nothing to do from where you come from but because someone said it does it must mean it’s true. This just shows how the president of the United States of America is a racist. Making people turn against others during this crisis.
