“The Chinese virus, it’s not racist at all. It comes from China,” said Trump. The corona virus also known as COVID-19 is a virus that has been very problematic and has spread across countries. Many people have died due to this virus and more deaths will continue. People are suppose to come together and support one another during this crisis and those in higher power should reinforce the importance of supporting one another instead of putting blame. Trump who is the president of the United States continues putting blame on China for the outbreak. As if ethnicity has to do something with the virus. As a result more people believe that these allegations are true. Which causes people to also believe that it is okay to call slurs to Chinese people and their community since it was their “fault” for the outbreak. Imagine being blamed for a virus that has nothing to do from where you come from but because someone said it does it must mean it’s true. This just shows how the president of the United States of America is a racist. Making people turn against others during this crisis.

Kevin, Thanks for posting this. I’m glad you remembered your blogging assignment, and this issue of Trump blaming the Chinese for the Coronavirus (especially by referring to it as the “Chinese virus”) is very troubling. When the President speaks that way, it gives racists permission to behave in offensive and prejudiced ways.
