NO-CARD

Final Project Topics:

1.) For the first topic I chose the topic we discussed in class. The topic was addicts (drug abuse) and the displacement they go thru. I will want to address in my research paper the displacement where they loose everything that a common refugee can. Such as home, loved ones, money and more. This topic is focused on the impacts in which drugs has on someone, however, talking about the things that change around them. (Also, I am going to look into that thing about the psychology part of the displacement that drugs have control of.)

  • How can drug abuse change your surroundings and everyday routines?

2.) My second topic is the gender and displacement. I want to establish a looking mirror on the displacement in which the LGBT community goes through. Also, pinpointing ways in which they are displaced.

  • How can gay bashing be considering a form of inducing displacement?

3.) My third choice is the Syrian Refugees. That topic talks for itself, however, I want to put emphasis on the things in which they are being displaced (forcefully).

  • How can we help?

Due: 03/28/16, Jackie Chan Adventures

For the assignment I have chosenĀ  ‘Jackie Chan Adventures’. This cartoon was perfect for the idea of displacement due to the fact of it being about regular people that are displaced because of their secrets and/or talents. For the Chan’s they have the secret of knowing about a higher realm where evil resides and they also have the talent of their ancient form of fighting. Also, we can take it as these evil spirits that Jackie and his family have to keep fending off, as being displaced when they come to the real world/earth.

My Choice for Essay #2

I believe so far from reading my choices I am going to pick, prompt number 4 with the reading On the Rainy River by Tim O’Brien. I have chosen this due to his reading to be honest. The point of view of his paper is the whole point of his piece of literature. We know emotional and psychological aspects of him. It simple to see the external characteristics of Tim O’Brien. Plus, he’s a coward and I know it because he said it and his emotions displayed within the reading tells me so.

So, this writing prompt would be best for this story and I chose it.

3 Questions for “Persepolis”

My 3 questions:

  1. Who was the illustrator or graphic designer of the novel and movie of Persepolis?
  2. What was the point of this movie? (Meaning, was it for a political standpoint or was it for awareness?)
  3. who is the “Shah”? Yes, I did focus on the movie, however, all I heard was her chanting his name. I didn’t get to understand the political concept of the movie. It was too much throwing of words such as: communist, aristocratic and etc.

Essay #1 Ideas . (by Imani Garcia)

  1. When reading number one the first thing that came to my head was moving to Freeport, Long Island in the beginning of fourth grade. It was a whole new scenery for me. First, I know how my own room. Two, out house was huge. Three, we had a horse stable as our back house and no horse. (However, my dogs did use to stay in the stables.) This was a shift for me, because I was given room, space, and air to breathe. The only thing that was displeasing was going to school with my siblings for the first time and everyone calling me by my family-nickname in public.
  2. For number two, I decided to pick a time in my life where I had to make a mental and physical leave from my family. I’ve moved away from my primary family a few times, but each time was a little bit harder. My most recent time was the summer of 2015. I had just graduated High School and decided that i need a more stable environment for my life as a college student.
  3. Skipping number three and brain storming on number four, i went for me being able to speak another language. I speak Jamaican Patois. It’s not that hard for me to switch between these languages because it’s something that i have been around since in the womb. I have an attachment to my language for many reasons. My major reason is because of my family. For my dad, he speaks Patois 24/7. Its his native language i suppose. My language is most often mimicked in a sense of humor most often. Some say it’s “broken English”. But my question is, how can a language be “broken”?

[These are my ideas so far for my personal narrative, however, I am leaning more towards number 2.]
