  1. I think the Author created Evelyn charter because his childhood was the same. He might have faced challenges in his past which motivated him to create a character liker Evelyn. In the story, Evelyn tries her best to keep her family together and she makes sure they are happy together.

  2. James Joyce, from the beginning of the story, introduces the character, Eveline, as a young girl wanting to escape from Ireland. She lacks the strength and bravery to make that leap, which will liberate her from her difficult situation. Joyce James has continued to depict her as the mother figure in her home by keeping her family together, just like her mother did. She is indecisive between the decision to leave for a new home and the idea of having to leave behind all the usual aspects in her day to day life; she never thought she’d removed from, like staying behind for her aged and reluctant father and siblings.

  3. I think that Joyce created Eveline to show an idea of reality the the majority face, rather than the minority. In many of the stories we read, we usually see the stereotypical zero to hero stories, where it seems that the main character gets everything he could of possibly want. While these stories are fun and entertaining, it is hard for readers to relate to and feel on a more personal level. A story like Eveline is more relatable. Although many say that they can’t wait the a chance for their life to make a complete 180, when presented the chance, it is hard to accept it and to move forward.
