Hello,

My name is Edward Monge. I’m 21 years old and live on Long Island. I graduated from Nassau Community College this past summer with an Associates in Business Marketing. There I frequently volunteered within the school and was even the Secretary of the Marketing Club. I decided to take this past fall off to intern at a small software technology firm called Utmost Technologies where I dealt with social media management. It was a great experience as I learned to use advertisement promotions, web & graphic design and coding. In addition I have also worked at an Italian Restaurant called Calogero’s on Long Island for five years where I serve, bartender and am also the social media manager. This is my first semester at Baruch and with that comes a new chapter in my life. I just transferred and it is exciting to meet many new people with great opportunities. My biggest hobbies are keeping up with sports and attending games as I am a huge Knicks, Yankees and Jets fan. I have not taken any type of English class in many years so I look forward to having a great semester with everyone in this class.

My name is Judith Paredes and I am currently majoring in Digital Communications. I transferred from the Borough of Manhattan Community College and finished my associates in Multimedia Programming. The classes I took mainly revolved on creating multimedia platforms such as websites and apps using HTML,CSS, Java, Javascript, Photoshop, p5 etc.  I also previously studied Filmmaking at the New York Film Academy and discovered my love for cinematography. I immediately was able to dive into the NY film industry as a freelance camera assistant with the help of my instructor as he took me as his personal camera assistant. Through that, I was able to network with several film workers on a professional level. I freelanced like this for a couple of years while working for a news television station. I later found that freelancing nor tv was not for me. I enjoy watching thriller films, documentaries and experimental films. The last time I wrote something was in my intensive writing course which was paired with an art studio class. I play guitar in my spare time and do some photography work. When I find the opportunity to do some volunteer work I do. Currently, I am assisting instructors as they teach guitar classes to kids near my area. This program is in Queens and is free. I love listening to music and am open to hearing different genres. Live music is something I indulge in and always like to attend shows.

Hello,

My name is Dean Patterson. I’m a student of Philosophy in my Junior year. I transferred from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas in the Fall of this year. At my prior liberal-arts school I was able to directly take upper level English courses, so I didn’t have an equivalent to this course – obviously putting me on the upper end of the age spectrum here. Nonetheless, I look forward to studying some interesting works with my classmates. As a student of Philosophy, I am interested in theory surrounding literature and the power of the text as a tool for revolution. It is the most potent way to disseminate information, and how we most directly communicate with our ancestors.

An “interesting event” over my break was to travel to Memphis with friends for New Years celebrations. Memphis is structured like an old city and has resisted the worst effects of gentrification that do such damage to New York.

I hope this semester goes well for you all, I’m sure very few of you have read this far – but if so, I’m always happy to discuss the works we read in class. Part of the pleasure of the text is discussing it with other people.

My name is Fahad Khan. I am a 22 year old transfer student from Maryland. My family and I used to live here couple of years back but we decided to move to Baltimore. As time went by I felt like I was going to depression and stuck in a sad loop of life which I needed to get out of. So last year I decided to take matters on to my own hands and moved to New York alone and start my life all over again. So January 1st I moved here. I also had another new years resolution to start vlogging in the new year and I did that too. Honestly It amazes me how much I’ve changed In just the past month after making this huge change. Im still going through a little bit of rough patch in the past weeks but I think Ill get through it. I am a huge fan of documentaries I’ve recently finished the Ted Bundy tapes Documentary on Netflix. I also watched the Fyre Festival documentary on the greatest party that never happened on Netflix. I also love editing movies and videos. Ever since I started vlogging on the daily Ive gotten much better at it. Vlogging has become this huge part of my life now and its amazing because even if I make either ten people smile or a hundred people I’m making someones day. That will always warm my heart. With these changes I had made I also started eating healthy and working out a lot more. In the past years I would never be the type of person to make this huge change in my life. At first my family was very hesitant of letting me go on my own. Times changed now they all support me and everything I’ve done. I don’t even know where I would be right now without my friends support. Main thing that shoved me into depression was that I was alone and all in all my life was hell. I know it’ll take a lot of time for me to get better but I thank my friends greatly for bringing me back into reality. All in all I feel great now I’ve gone through extensive changes in the past few months. Im mostly happy and grateful for everything that I’ve achieved and a gotten. If you guys want to check out my daily vlogs the link for the first one is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4idJ0kV1yI . I would greatly appreciate it if you guys subscribed. Thank you guys for taking the time to read this introduction.

Hello everyone, my name is Richard Sam and I am currently a junior at Baruch College. My intended major is finance and I am also minoring in communications. I desire to graduate in 2020 with the intentions of acquiring the knowledge in the business field. I was born in India and was bought up in the US at the age of 4 months. I have lived in Long Island ever since I was small and yet never really encountered the city since college. I found my college experience so far engaging as well as tedious because of the commute and environment of the school. Everyone tends to be moving in a fast pace as well as directed into one goal. My hobbies or activities I enjoy include playing basketball, volleyball, track as well as listening to music. Personally I enjoy playing basketball the most. I participated in a few leagues when I was younger, as well as coaching in minor league tournaments now. But besides sports, I’m currently engaged in going to the gym to get into shape. Even though, this has been a recent obsession, I desire to go at least four days of the week as I tend to find it a stress reliver. On the weekends, I work at my uncle’s office, which is 20 minutes away from where I live. I began to acquire insight in the business aspects of accounting at the age of 18 when I began working there. Currently, I go to school four days a week and commute using the LIRR. My commute ranges from anywhere around an hour including a 20 minute walk from Penn Station to Baruch College. Even though I often find it tedious to commute to Baruch, it is often worth it for the education I have received. I was always fascinated in majoring in the field of finance in specific because of my family. I’ve had a few cousins who graduated from Baruch College, as they had gave me positive insight in the profession itself. Personally, I desire to branch off in the business field and try anticipating in investment banking. I hope to one day accomplish my goal in this profession also graduate first with my bachelors degree.

Hi everyone! My name is Shayla Sahmanovic and I am a transfer student here at Baruch College. My major is Finance and I aspire to be a financial advisor. I currently work in an industry known as Merchant Cash Advance where we provide small businesses with access to quick working capital. My interest in the financial field has been heavily influenced by my family’s businesses and investments. Their success has inspired me to create an empire of my own.

If I wasn’t interested in becoming a financial advisor, I would most definitely become a world traveler. My love for traveling started at a very young age as I was privileged enough to visit my family in Europe every summer. My family comes from a very small, Eastern European country known as Montenegro. There, I have created most of my childhood memories, and probably the best moments of my life. The European culture and lifestyle inspired me to explore many countries even beyond European boundaries. Some places I have explored include Paris, Venice, Amsterdam, Stuttgart, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Brussels, Montreal, Montego Bay, Punta Cana, Cancun, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and a couple more places that I cannot think of right now… This summer I plan on visiting Istanbul, Cappadocia, Santorini, Mykonos, and Athens!

Pretty much I love a good investment and breathtaking views!

Hello, My name is Lady. I am a transfer student from Queensborough Community College, I graduated last Spring 2018 where I got my Business Administration Associate Degree. This is my first semester at Baruch, and I’m majoring in Human Resources Management. I came to the USA 12 years ago at the age of 21. I am from Colombia and had attended all my school years there, even some college years as well. Back in Bogota-Colombia, I was majoring in Modern Languages and that’s how I was introduced to different types of programs that allowed students to travel abroad. One of those programs that caught my attention was the Cultural Care Aupair program. This gave students the opportunity to live in another country for a year with a host family as au pairs, which meant we had to take care of their children, do some college credits and be immersed in their culture at the same time. That was the added value of improving the languages we were learning by living in the country where the language was native to. There were many other options such as Germany and Australia, but my first choice was USA. My overall experience was great except for the fact that I missed my family a lot. I had not planned on staying here permanently, however 6 months before it was my time to return I met the guy who is now my dear husband. We are both from the Capital, Bogotá. Back in Colombia we used to live in the same neighborhood, just a few blocks away, but we ended up meeting in Manhattan one day. We live in Queens, and have a healthy and happy almost 4 year old son. After I’m done here at Baruch, my husband plans to go back to college to get his degree in Nursing. He’s currently a Surgical Tech at the Hospital for Special Surgery. As a stay home mother, being a college student has been quite challenging, being my son my number ONE priority, a lot of sacrifices take place in order for me to succeed as a student. It’s been hard, stressing but the most rewarding experience because I am not doing this by myself, every goal I reach I must give credit to my husband and my son because we are doing this together and its for our own benefit. We’ve done it in the past and we are ready to do it all aver again.
