1)Asian Americans are being categorized as working very hard for money. b) Hollywood movies magnify stereotypes of Asian Americans in order to make money and get ratings. c) Misconceptions about Asians have been created in the American media.
This is a controversial issue. Nowadays, in the era of advanced network communication, people will watch movies and TV, and get information online. Even directors and businessmen can exaggerate the stereotype of Asian people in order to gain higher viewing and earn more money. It just makes people who don’t know Asians believe the stereotype.
Producers are using Chinese stereotypes in the movies “Fresh Off the Boat”, which only serves to convince people who don’t know Asians of that stereotype. It’s a TV show I watched when I started to learn English. The show portrays Asian mothers as money-hungry. And is very harsh to children, forcing her kids to study day and night. This is a very small percentage of Asians parents will do, and not all Asian parents are like this. So Chau’s argument well supports that what is seen in movies and TV is not necessarily correct.
People should accept cultural diversity instead of rejecting and laughing at the culture of one race. Nor should they choose to abandon their true colors in order to cater to others. What people have to do is respect different races and different cultures. Don’t be factual and marginalize just because of cultural differences.
While I’m reading this article, I discovered that most people’s misunderstanding of Asian-Americans comes from the media’s reports on Asian-Americans. Most of these reports are inaccurate. There are also producers who deliberately reinforce these stereotypes in films and television in order to pander to audiences.
