ENG 2100: Writing 1 with Jay Thompson

Nana’s Reading Responses 11/15

  1. The way I detect crap is if I ask a question. I might ask a random friend standing right next to me. But I will think about their answers. Let’s say I ask a math question. A friend of mine who is in honor class answered me. I’ll believe it more. I would basically decide whether to believe or not based on a person’s reliability in the field.
  2. Google the publisher to see if it’s reliable.
  3. Split the body paragraph into too many parts. Because I like to break it into smaller pieces. But actually that makes my essay less structured and less organized.
  4. People can be successful without graduating from college. In fact, school is only one way to reach success, while there are so many other ways. Many successful people didn’t finish their education. People’s success depends on the ability to survive, the truth of life and the cultivation of values. The diploma is only a paper. Because many college graduates can not find a job in nowaday. So people who are not interested in study can use their school time to do things that interest them and succeed in doing so. Jay Chou is a good example. He majored in music in high school, only a few asian parents support music even today and Jay didn’t even go to college. Devotion to music led to his success. He is popular in China, everyone in Asia has heard about him. But actually finishing school is the most common way, because those who have been successful are known and very few. The chance is one in a thousand, even me, my only way out now is to study.
